About Old Castle Hotel

A Sunday carvery and a free breakfast are as much the draw at the Old Castle Hotel as the beds are. This is a modest pub-hotel on Sudan Road in Weymouth, with a bar and restaurant at its heart and a beer garden for sitting out when the weather allows. It's the kind of place built around simple, straightforward food and drink rather than fuss.

There are just four rooms, kept plain and comfortable rather than styled to the nines, making the hotel better suited to guests after a no-frills base than a luxury stay. Free WiFi is available throughout, and free on-site parking makes it an easy stop for those arriving by car.

Weymouth's coastal attractions and town centre are within reach for days out, with the hotel itself offering a quiet, low-key retreat to return to. Between the carvery, the bar and the garden, guests get a proper local pub feel alongside their room for the night.

Entered with mine and my sisters family, totalling 10 including 3 young children at around 17:30 looking for some food. The place was empty, and I mean empty, not a soul in site apart from 2 ladies having a drink in the garden. We asked where the best place to sit was and we were told they can not accommodate such a “large” party. There was 4 adults, 3 teenagers and 3 kids, and an empty pub……. I’m a local and was embarrassed, won’t be going back in a hurry. **Edit** Regarding the kitchen staff not starting till 6 o’clock; we were not informed this and could have had the option to wait if this was the case, however, We did phone 20 minutes before turning up and asked if they were serving food to which we were told “yes, last orders for the kitchen is 7 o’clock”. The whole experience was…… strange.

Rooms are small, but well catered for so no complaints in that regard. I was welcomed very warmly on arrival and showed to my room, breakfast was fantastic and filling. My only complaint was the lack of evening meal availability, but the owners were kind enough to offer cutlery etc for any take out food you brought back. Overall the pub had a warm friendly atmosphere and felt comfortable eating in the bar area. Will be coming back.
