Dingle Horse Riding

Went on a Fell Ride here while staying at the campsite. I've not ridden in 3 or 4 years, so even though I'm used to big horses I wasn't feeling super confident. They put me on a ride with other riders who'd had a break and matched the horses perfectly. I rode Dolly, who certainly tested me with a bit of napping and spooking at logs but it was a real confidence boost to realise I could still handle a strong horse being a bit stubborn! Horses are well cared for, stables seems well run and the horses seem to enjoy their jobs. In my opinion, don't be put off by negative reviews. These horses are safe but they are forward going, strong and think for themselves. They're not riding school/trekking centre horses that just blindly follow each other. If you say you can ride, you need to be able to ride! Shout out to our ride leader Taz who was amazing. She constantly checked everyone was ok, was encouraging and gave some tuition/tips when needed. Bad influence trying to get me to take one of the horses on Winter loan and volunteer there (ohhhh the temptation!). Amazing experience and I'll 100% be back!

This was on my bucket list and what a wonderful experience it was. Beautiful people, horses & views. I was matched perfectly with a stunning Shire horse, and joined a lovely lady, Ruth, who has ridden here for years. I know why. Sim, our guide, was fantastic. She encouraged me to take the leap, after not being on a horse in way too many years. Ruth was amazing too. I thought I was getting on a bit to ride, but Ruth you are an inspiration. I hope with all my heart, it wasn't your last ride. And If I lived closer I'd be there with you. Sim took some fantastic photos, even taking a video of us cantering while she cantered alongside. It was a most special & memorable experience & I highly recommend it, whether you can ride or not, It doesn't matter. Plus, you can camp there!

Honestly one of the best riding centres globally - and I have genuinely been to hundreds. As an experienced rider who developed multiple sclerosis in my 20s, I have struggled to find a venue that enables me to ride safely but enjoy myself in the sense that my prior experience is taken into account. I returned to the saddle after 2 years out and absolutely adored a private beach ride with my friend, as well as two farm rides to build ourselves up first. It was truly amazing. There are horses and riding experiences for all abilities- where the safety of horses and riders is paramount. If you are open about your experience, health, fitness and expectations Annie and her team will provide exactly what you are looking for. The one thing they cannot control is the weather, and subsequent safety implications eg wet ground on certain ride routes. Thus, it is my opinion that one should firmly ignore any prior reviews from clients who “didn’t get to go as fast as they wanted”. All horse people know we can’t gallop on slippery going. It’s just the weather ! We spent a week in a gloriously warm, cozy and well equipped glamping pod, where fresh flowers were in the table for our arrival. We had a fantastic hot tub to ease our muscles. To top it off the local countryside is breathtakingly stunning, and peppered with traditional English pubs that offer fantastic grub! This is such a unique place - if you travel from abroad to “ride in England” then this is my #1 recommendation- it doesn’t get more unique than staying on a working farm and riding rare English heavy horse breeds- it really is special.

We had a wonderful time at Cumbrian Heavy Horses. Our instructor Simone was absolutely amazing, so patient and helpful. The experience was brilliant for both myself with lots of riding experience and my completely novice partner. The views were stunning, and the horses are beautiful, and so incredibly well cared for. Would highly recommend to anyone.
