About Coast and Camplight
Three miles from Whitby with sweeping views down to the abbey and sea, Coast and Camplight manages that rare blend of proper wilderness and creature comfort. Ancient woodland hugs one side, wildflower meadows the other, and the whole site hums with wildlife – barn owls, deer, badgers and countless birds thrive in the protected habitats. To preserve that natural magic, cars stay at the gate (wheelbarrows provided, help on hand) and the site runs entirely off-grid with solar lighting and compost loos. No wifi, patchy phone signal – perfect for a genuine digital detox.
The bell tents, though, are far from spartan. Expect proper beds, fluffy towels and luxury bedding, plus a rotating outdoor kitchen and hanging griddles over your firepit for cooking alfresco. Hot showers are available when the campfire warmth isn't quite enough. Guests consistently praise the friendly hosts and thoughtful touches like firewood bundles, hot water bottles and an honesty shop.
Two dog-friendly pubs sit a mile away, and a farm selling homemade ice cream is under an hour's walk – though with Whitby's fish and chips so close, you're never far from coastal treats.

Just a short 10 minute drive from the centre of Whitby is this idyllic wee haven, run by such a warm, welcoming couple. We spent our evenings round the campfire looking out at The Abbey - with stunning open skies, deer, and a hunting owl all just some of the amazing sights we caught. TBH it was such a secluded and relaxing spot, we hardly went out to do any sightseeing - we'll have to come back for longer! The outpost was beautifully set up - quite a walk to get to and a wee bit damp at night as no heater, but the wheelbarrows and hot water bottles provided certainly helped. Overall a very cosy sleep. The hot shower with wonderful views, and the honesty shop, were other highlights. Fish and chips delivery also available. Thanks to the owners for a memorable birthday escape.

Spent a very special day here taking part in an 'Into the Wild Retreat'. We had no sooner arrived and we were treated to a fly past from one of the beautiful resident barn owls. The views across to Whitby and the sea beyond are wonderful. Verity and Ed are in the process of rewilding the farm and an ever increasing amount of plants and creatures are choosing to make this incredible place their home. If you are looking to get away from it all and surround yourself in nature then this is the place for you. I can't comment on the rooms as this was a day event but I am planning a trip in my camper van to stay at the pop up campsite just as soon as I can.

Just spent a few days in the Wild Woods safari tent and it was absolutely brilliant. We’ve been all over the world in various Glamping sites. This was right up there with the best. Tent was superb and cosy and comfortable with a brilliant outdoor kitchen. Plenty of firewood provided and we had a great time toasting marshmallows and also using the wood burner for the chillier nights. Hosts were really friendly and always willing to help and get feedback on improvements needed (there were none as far as we are concerned). Really close to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay too. Definitely a recommend from us and the kids.

We absolutely loved our stay here, a beautiful site with stunning views of the abbey in the distance and the sea, fields with birds and nature. Lots of beautiful areas on the site and surrounding area. Friendly owners with a well thought site, we loved the caravan shop and the chickens. We stayed for two nights, lots of blankets and hot water bottle etc is provided but though we went in September the tent was so lovely and warm, spacious and well decorated. The provided space and areas such as fire pit, kitchen, dining area etc covered everything we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. We would love to return some day and would recommend this place 100% Thank you ☺️
