About La Rosa Hotel

La Rosa Hotel occupies a Georgian townhouse on East Terrace, a short walk from Whitby harbour, and trades on its history as a boarding house once favoured by Lewis Carroll during his Whitby visits. Each of its rooms is individually themed and decorated in a vintage, boutique style, avoiding the uniform look of a chain hotel in favour of something more personal and eccentric.

A cocktail bar and tea room operate on the ground floor, open to non-residents as well as guests, adding a social space that many small Whitby hotels lack. The hotel is dog-friendly throughout, a point of distinction on a coastline popular with walkers, and its position gives easy access to both the harbourside and the climb up towards the abbey.

La Rosa suits guests looking for individuality and character over uniform comfort, and its central East Terrace address means the harbour, old town shops and jet workshops are all within a short stroll.

Gosh! Rare I give such an unreserved review, but this hotel is an undiscovered jewel. For those looking for accommodation that is a little (but only a little) off the straight and narrow, this curated collection of individual rooms (from the dark & moody "Stoker" to the saucily romantic "La Rosa") are all gorgeous. The friendly owners and staff go to no end of trouble to make sure your stay is perfect. The breakfast - continental vegetarian - is fine and filling, and if you're here at the end of the week, enjoy some mean cocktails from a true library of choices to watch the sun go down to. Check out any time you want, but hope to never leave ...

I cannot fault La Rosa. Helen, Rob, the team and John the dog have something magical here. It’s eclectic, full of character, whimsy and charm. Each room is totally unique. If you want modern minimalist you’re in the wrong place. If you want gorgeous views, a tasty breakfast, a delicious cocktail in the lounge and a cosy home from home you’ll love it. The place is chock full of memorabilia, victoriana and is a maximalists dream. We will be back! Love La Rosa ❤️

Absolutely amazing hotel! We stayed for 3 nights and it was fantastic. The hotel is gorgeously decorated throughout, with each room themed and filled with character. Breakfast delivered to our door was a lovely thing to wake up to. Our room had a bath, a comfy queen (maybe king?) bed, with a seafront view that included the harbour, the steps, and the Abbey. Parking was directly out front which was a great help. Loads of places nearby for lil bits, and a very short walk into Whitby centre. The staff we're all wonderful and welcoming and made our stay as magical as the hotel itself. I really could go on with more details, but I'd rather outright say it's fab, fantastic, and a true gem. Thank you to the staff who looked after us on our anniversary holiday, you're amazing. And thank you John, the hotel dog, for allowing us to pet you.

Mr. Matt Lewis.

Great place. The staff are great, the building is awesome and the decor is perfect. We had the crows nest, the rooms were individually amazing, clean and those on the front had great views of the town and the Abbey. Continental breakfast delivered to your door. Bar has great beer selection. I can’t wait to come back.
