Royal Hotel Whitby

Great dinner service for hotel guests but also walk in customers! By recommendation of my friend i visited this hotel June 2026 that’s surprisingly welcoming with decor and well organised polite hotel staff right as you enter! Comfy charming design of the bar will definitely let you relax especially when later sunsets tend to overwhelm the whole experience. Not many hotels those days keep that typical English style and food menu but the restaurant menu here is beautiful and plenty of flavoursome meals. Absolutely stunning made from scratch meals and range of wine to choose from. Meri and her awsome team kept me well happy at the dinner as well as nice breakfast. For your information the chef created the menu from light options to great fulfilling meat or fish dishes. Well done ! Little minus for hotel lift that has the brain of its own sometimes , should be programmed better. Whitby and the hotel supersized me satisfactory!

Paid almost £400 for 2 nights (brekfast included). Got a 1st floor room with a beautiful view of the carpark and surrounding rears of houses 🤮. Yes the room was clean, the bed was comfy and the bathroom worked. But a few things caused me to leave only 3 stars for the room. The curtains were blackout, but didn't seal to the wall so light came in all around them. The windows are all single pane glass. Not safety glass either. This made sleeping in impossible due to the seagulls waking up at dawn, cawing in the area behind the hotel and the sound echoed around the carpark. The bathroom definitely needed the tiles cleaning after I found a few suspect yellow stains. The location of the spare toilet roll was rediculous also. At bowl level right next to it. Guys will deffo splash it if you know what I mean. Should have had a lot more soundproofing between floors also. The family of baby elephants in the room directly above us kept us up on the first night, and the wedding party that was happening directly below us on the 2nd was mental. The food in the fat badger restaurant is really nice but expensive. £35 for a 10oz sirloin for example. Brekfast was tasty too.

Disappointed in the standard of the room for the high price. 1 night B&B and including an additional fee of £20 to bring our dog was £200 and while the room itself was clean and I'm glad to say had no signs of other pets having been in there was significantly dated and at this price a tatty sink and a small shower cubicle in the bathroom where the shower hose and head were different to the different to the original shower controls (which were yellow and faded) and so couldn't even be adjusted is poor. I understand that the hotel is in the process of being updated and our room was clearly not one that had been done so for the price they charged I'm not happy. Overall the main parts of the hotel were nice and the decor in the bar, dining room and foyer were all stylish and the staff all very friendly. I think in reality if you're putting customers in rooms that are very dated and in significant need of a refresh then the pricing needs to be aligned to that.

Perfect location and my friend and I had a sea view which was also lovely. A good size car park is situated at the leisure centre which we found ideal for the hotel. Staff were pleasant and helpful. We chose to have breakfast at the hotel which was lovely - there is also veggie sausages available at the hot breakfast station on request. Would definitely stay here again :)
