The Captains Lodge

A lovely two night stay during my trip to the Great North Run. I never saw Rob or Angela but really didn’t need to. Communication was really thorough through text & email with all queries answered really quickly. The key was left in a safe box along with the parking tokens required with instructions of how to access the box clear and concise. Angela messaged me to let me know that my room was ready in the morning and so I was able to check in immediately on my arrival to Whitby rather than waiting for the afternoon check-in which was wonderfully considerate. I had a single room (Room 5) with all the standard amenities that would be expected in a guesthouse room. A lovely view overlooking St Hilda’s church and I felt very comfortable with everything clean & tidy. The only thing missing is a shower but this is made quite clear when booking the room and, after completing the Great North Run, I really appreciated the lovely warm bath to sooth the legs! The water pressure is amazing and the bath was filled in a matter of minutes! All in all, Angela and Rob are wonderful hosts that you may or may not see and I’ll have no hesitation in booking a room at the Captain’s Lodge again.

The perfect way to experience Whitby, owners Angela and Rob are there if you need them but otherwise leave you to your own devices. If you'd rather choose your own dining venues this is the perfect choice; clean, comfortable, inexpensive and fabulous location from where to explore. Highly recommended

Staying here as a single traveller I was treated to a very comfortable queen size bed in a clean, spacious room. The breakfast menu had an excellent choice and it was all served with a smile. Delicious too. I had a bath - not a shower - which was perfect treat for me after a long day's walking the Cleveland way. The location is excellent and although only 10 minutes walk away from the town is quiet at nights. A great place to stay. I found parking in West cliff easier. Its £9 for 24 hours and the ticket is transferable to most car parks in the area.

A truly lovely place to stay. Angela and Rob are perfect hosts - kind, generous, helpful and friendly. The cooked breakfasts are absolutely amazing but there are healthier options available. Seemingly limitless tea, coffee and biscuits for the rooms which are very comfortable and many of which come with a sea view (ours did!). I would not hesitate to recommend the Captains Lodge to anyone visiting Whitby and we will certainly stay there on our next trip there.
