About Bencorragh House
Tucked into the tiny hamlet of Upper Gills near John o'Groats, Bencorragh House is a peaceful stopover on the NC500 with sweeping views across to the island of Stroma and Orkney beyond. Watch the Pentland ferry glide past from your pitch, or stroll to Annie's bakery for cakes and lunch without moving the motorhome. The site offers hook-ups, waste disposal, recycling and a dedicated dog-walking field, making it ideal for a short stay en route.
It's a straightforward, no-frills aire—there's no drinkable water point on site, so fill up beforehand—but the location and that big northern sky more than compensate. Perfect for ticking off the John o'Groats signpost and soaking up the far-flung tranquillity of Caithness.

It's actually a caravan site with 3-4 pitches (electricity, water, and wastewater hookups), but we could also pitch our tent there for £15 a night. Super friendly, a bakery around the corner, and the ferry terminal only 3 minutes away. Very quiet location, and there were even horses to pet! We'd love to come back 😊
