Oakley Court

I’ve just come back from a stay at The Oakley Court Hotel, and I really couldn’t recommend it more highly. It is the most incredible place and we had such a wonderful time. When we first arrived, I have to admit I was slightly concerned. We couldn’t check into our rooms on time and, with a big anniversary party planned for that evening, I suddenly started wondering whether they would be able to pull everything together. Everyone seemed so relaxed that I wasn’t quite sure! I needn’t have worried. The staff, led by the wonderful manager Sean, really know how to make you feel at home, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. The rooms are beautiful - spotlessly clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The setting on the river is absolutely stunning, and the bar, restaurant and reception areas are all very stylish. We had the anniversary party in a private room and the food was excellent. There was a great choice of starters and mains - all delicious. There is also plenty to do. We took a couple of boats up the river to Bray, played tennis and enjoyed the swimming pool, but equally, it was lovely simply to relax and enjoy the hotel and its beautiful surroundings. We felt completely relaxed and very much at home throughout our stay. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the whole vibe of the place. I would definitely love to go back.

Oakley Court is set in beautiful grounds on the bank of the River Thames.On arrival when going into reception the service offered was good.Again our room was generous in size with complimentary shacks provide for the guests.I went for an early morning sauna , steam room visit followed by a swim.Other guests were using the gym facilities. However , I thought the overall standard of the food could have been better.I had the full English breakfast , I enjoyed the sausage but the fried eggs had a beautiful colour but were stone cold.The bacon was over cooked and the toast was quite hard. I find it strange that no draught beer was available but the botted beer was limited in choice.

Beautiful on the outside, let down by the details — 3/5 We stayed here as a birthday treat and left feeling like it could have been so much more than it was. Check-in set the tone a bit, honestly. We arrived at 3:40 — forty minutes after check-in was supposed to open — and our room still wasn't ready. There wasn't much of an apology, just a vague suggestion to head to the bar. We ended up sitting outside instead, which was actually lovely, really peaceful overlooking the river. But when we went back to ask again there was barely any communication, a bit of awkward standing around, and then suddenly our room was ready. It just didn't feel like a warm welcome, especially for a special occasion. The room itself was genuinely gorgeous though — really spacious, beautifully styled, huge bed. No complaints there at all. The spa is where things fell apart for me, because that was a big part of why I booked. It was dated and, honestly, not very clean. Nowhere near the standard of the rest of the hotel. The in-room handbook didn't help either — no info on spa practicalities, no opening times for the restaurant. We only found out the River House closed at 6pm when we called to book, by which point we had less than an hour. The real kicker though was the next morning. We'd planned to have lunch in the grounds — it was my birthday, the whole point was to enjoy the space gardens and spa — and we were told the entire hotel had been bought out by a corporate event. No lunch, no access. If that had been mentioned at the point of booking I simply wouldn't have booked. It felt like a pretty significant thing to not flag to guests. For £309 for one room - I would have expected more. The grounds are beautiful, it's brilliantly dog friendly, and the rooms are a real treat. But the customer service needs work, the spa needs serious attention (even just a good regular clean!), and guests deserve to know when their stay is going to be significantly affected by a private event.

Lovely location. A friend who lives near suggested I visit. Only problem if you are not resident you can't eat or drink there. No surprise the place was deserted. Seems a very odd way to run a hospitality business. Must miss out on a lot of custom. 😕
