About Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park
This spacious site sits in the grounds of the Castle Howard estate, offering lakeside walks and views across to one of Yorkshire's grandest stately homes. Pitches are level and generous, with a mix of grass and hardstanding options, most with electric hookups. The heated shower blocks are kept clean, there's a handy on-site shop, and staff earn consistent praise for their friendliness.
Campfires are allowed, dogs are welcome, and families have plenty of room to spread out. The location makes an excellent base for exploring York and the North Yorkshire Moors. Some visitors note occasional noise can be an issue, but the estate setting and well-maintained facilities more than compensate for most.

What visitors say
We stayed here in our campervan and liked that you could choose your own pitch, which gave plenty of flexibility. The shower block and toilets were clean and perfectly adequate. Unfortunately, it was extremely busy on the Saturday night we visited, which wasn't the peaceful experience we were hoping for. It may well be much better during the week. The site information stated that fire pits were not allowed, but several people were using them, and there didn't appear to be anyone checking the field or enforcing the rules. A regular site check could also help discourage loud music and other inconsiderate behaviour. Overall, it wasn't the right site for us, so we wouldn't return.

A really beautiful campsite, we stayed in the non-electric area and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Facilities were great, hot showers & clean toilets, even a dish-wash station & laundry facilities. The staff at the check in desk/mini shop were all so kind and helpful, great choice of supplies & treats at the shop too! You get a good discount if you decide to head into Castle Howard house & grounds which we did and had a brilliant day - highly recommend! Lots of beautiful walks to take in the area & a lovely lake to fish in which my partner was very happy about. All in all 10/10, we shall be coming back! PS - the crows are not an issue as some other reviews have said. Dont be in nature if you dont like nature! 😂

I and my partner spent two nights here in the last week of May and we couldn’t have asked for more! Plenty of choices to pitch the tent, endless scenic views, friendly campers in every direction! The showers/toilet block seem to get a mixed rap online but we never found them in less than a clean and welcoming condition. There are washing up/laundry facilities too. The reception/shop is well stocked with basics and tasty treats, the staff are ever so friendly/helpful. Our walks by the Great Lake gave us views up the back lawn of the Castle and our stay even entitled us to a 2-for-1 entry to house and gardens! Overall a fantastic experience and we’d recommend it to anyone.

Stay at my parents lodge here multiple times a year. Secure gate, friendly and helpful staff, lovely residents. The campsite looks pretty decent too and there is a toilet block. Some of the one star reviews are hilarious. One guy is complaining about there being too many birds. Dude, you’re camping a field outside. There’s birds outside. 🤣 Another was complaining there is no lake and “you can’t find it”. The lake is huge. I genuinely have no idea how you couldn’t find it. 🤣
