About Raker Lakes Caravan Park

Some might say the best way to explore 'God's own country' is to walk its dales and moors, taking in Yorkshire's spectacular rural landscapes from a hiking trail. If that all sounds a little too energetic, you might prefer to experience the splendours of this region from the setting of Raker Lakes Caravan Park.

This adults-only caravan site occupies 28 lush acres of meticulously landscaped countryside to the south-east of York (20 minutes' drive). The vibe here is very much one of quiet contemplation, with the main on-site activity being fishing. Raker Lakes has five bodies of water, including Kingfisher Lake, a specimen lake where you can catch carp weighing upwards of 20 pounds. If breaking records isn't important to you, Highbank Lake or intimate Heron Pond, both fringed by dense vegetation and both stocked with carp and perch, might be more up your street.

Level hardstanding and grass pitches with electric hook-up are shaded by leafy trees and sheltered by tall hedges, and have access to modern toilets and shower facilities. The nearest shop is just under a mile away, in the village of Wheldrake (a short car drive or a 15-minute walk), which also has a traditional pub serving food and a café. Anglers travelling with fishing-averse partners might have to relent and agree to the occasional walk. Consider heading to Wheldrake Ings Nature Reserve (five minutes), a nesting ground for waders, or to Allerthorpe Common Nature Reserve (10 minutes), which is home to woodpeckers and roe deer.

What visitors say

A Else

Such a beautiful place with well-kept lakes and toilet showers. It's not an overcrowded place, with only a few pitches, which was nice. Unfortunately, noise from the road just behind the bushes wasn't what we wanted. We wanted to feel away from the sound of traffic and expected the sound of nature. So it wasn't for us, but it's a great spot if you wanted to pop to York, and the staff was amazing.

Lovely secluded campsite. Easy to get to. Handy for York and the nearby village of Wheldrake with a Costcutter, post office, pub and is located a couple of miles from Yorkshire Air Museum. Pitches are of a good size. There are two toilets and one shower, all of which are kept clean and have plenty of hooks for your clothes and toiletry bag. Very helpful and welcoming owners, one of them offered to give my Dad a lift to the air museum. Their little dog was a joy to meet. Friendly campers who kindly assisted us with our new awning.
