About Westergate House
Walk into a room at Westergate House and you'll find it spotlessly kept, with homemade cakes and fresh milk left as a welcome touch. There are only six rooms in total, which keeps things personal, and each one is set up for a comfortable stay rather than a fleeting one.
Breakfast is the other strong point here, with a varied spread of locally sourced ingredients cooked well and served each morning. Beyond that, the property offers free WiFi, a garden with views, packed lunches on request, drinks in the room, laundry service, luggage storage and free on-site parking, plus an electric vehicle charge point. There's also a gym, meeting rooms and concierge service for guests who need them, and the house doubles as a wedding venue.
Westergate House sits in Deighton, on the edge of York, with a bus stop right outside making the short journey into the city straightforward. The surrounding area also offers golf, fishing, cycling routes, horse riding and a choice of pubs and restaurants nearby, with the hosts on hand to help guests make sense of it all.

What guests say
A charming stay, with wonderful hosts. Westergate House is truly a top pick for visiting York. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcomed by Hilary and Paul who are delightful hosts. Hilary gave us great advice for getting around during our stay. We also got our room upgrade which was a really nice touch to make us feel very welcomed in the house. (Field and Farrow Room) The room itself was spacious and felt very up to date, with a sofa area that looked out to the lawn and the fields across the view. The room had plenty of selection of teas, hot chocolate and coffee with fresh milk provided. Our room was also welcomed with some cookies which was well needed after a long drive to York. On the second day, our room was provided with delicious homemade cake for a nice afternoon treat with wonderful views of the Yorkshire countryside. The breakfast provided during our stay was amazing, with plenty of section to choose from on the menu that is cooked to order. We choose the cooked breakfast which went down a treat (there are some options that do require advanced notice but these are clearly marked on menus in both your room and in the dining room). We also had the option of fresh juices, tea or coffee to start the day. We also had the opportunity to chat with Hilary and Paul during our stay, who are both very friendly and take the opportunity to get to know you which made us feel part of the home. The touch of remembering what we ordered the next day was a little touch that we appreciated. In terms of getting to York, you would be very well connected with the option of a good bus service that stops just outside or a short drive (5mins or less) to the designer outlet for either shopping or hop on the Park & Ride to the city centre in a short journey. I would highlt recommend this place to anyone looking to stay when coming to York, and we will be sure to come back on our next visit. Thank you for the warm welcome Hilary and Paul

We have stayed here several times and have never had any issues or problems and have had an excelllent stay each and every time. Hillary and Paul are excellent hosts and nothing is too much trouble from the second you walk through the door. We usually book to stay in the Yorkshire Pudding and Parkin room, which is lovely and has a bath and a shower. Each day freshly baked cake is left in the room and it highlights what an excellent baker Hillary is. Breakfast is varied and I am not afraid to say is the best I have ever eaten anywhere in this country or indeed Europe. Westergate is located just outside of York, but a 10 minute drive and you are at the Designer Outlet center, which is worth a visit. There is a bus stop 3 minutes walk from the B&B where buses run into the center of York every 20 minutes, with a return costing only £5 (at the time of this review). If you planning on visiting York, then I highly recommend staying at Westergate House - we are already checking out diary for our next visit.

Having stayed at Westergate House previously and thoroughly enjoyed it, my wife and I decided to celebrate my 80th birthday there and invited close family to join us for a few days. It was a good decision because, as previously, Hilary and Paul made us most welcome and even left their fifth room unoccupied, so that we had the run of the place. Hilary cooked us a lovely ‘birthday dinner’ and baked a super strawberries and cream sponge birthday cake 🎂! My family were delighted with the accommodation, the food and the homely feeling of the place and we’re definitely going to book it again for my 90th🤔?! Thank you Hilary and Paul, you did us proud and we’re happy to recommend Westergate House highly as a place to stay for visiting York or a small event venue! Absolutely first class!

I was very impressed with all aspects of my stay from the warmth of the reception and explanation of the facilities to the cleanliness and high standard of decoration and soft furnishings. Breakfast was very tasty and had everything I asked for. All in all a very pleasant stay.
