Tucked into the grounds of Swallow Hall Golf Course, this family-run site near Wheldrake offers direct access to an 18-hole pay-and-play course with no tee-time booking required – plus a 9-hole Academy layout, short-game practice area and floodlit driving range. Non-golfers aren't left out: Forestry Commission woodland walks stretch right from the pitch edge, and York's Designer Outlet sits just 10 minutes away by car.
The site keeps things low-key with around 40 grass pitches and an eco-friendly toilet and shower block (only biodegradable toilet fluid permitted). Some visitors note the facilities can feel a touch tired in places, but the location – peaceful countryside yet only six miles from York's centre – strikes a balance that appeals to couples and families alike.

What visitors say
A very nice campsite. The toilets and showers are spotlessly. It's great for golfers as they have an 18 hole course a 9 hole and a driving range. Then there's the roost bar selling excellent beers in a clean and comfortable environment. Plenty of walks through the forest but be aware that ticks are lurking so be prepared to inspect your selves and your dog for these horrible little creatures.

Staying in an exceptional cottage in the grounds of the golf course at Swallow Hall, booked through Sykes Holidays. Fantastic location, very spacious cottage, very clean, warm and cosy, very well equipped, (everything you could want) would return in a heartbeat. Welcome pack consisted of a bottle of milk and cake, which was very much appreciated.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a lady in a somewhat melancholy mood. As 3 young boys, we were treated like outsiders which must have been due to the reason that we were not members. Whilst leaving, said lady warned us (whilst holding a cigarette) to play with 3 bags instead of 2. Of course we understand that this rule may be part of the club’s policy, but we think the manner in which this lady dealt with us was strictly unprofessional. On the other hand, the 9 hole course was well maintained and great fun to play.
