About Blacksmith Arms

York's Main Street is home to the Blacksmith Arms, a small hotel with just three rooms attached to a working pub. It's the kind of place where the atmosphere leans homely rather than grand, with staff noted for being friendly and welcoming to both regulars and overnight guests.

Rooms come with drinks on hand and the essentials covered by free WiFi, air conditioning and breakfast, while the wider property offers a restaurant, bar and snack bar, a garden, gym, and meeting rooms for those combining business with a stay. There's also a lift, luggage storage and concierge services, plus free on-site parking. The pub's Sunday carvery is a particular draw, with a wide choice of meats and vegetables served hot and fresh, and prices are generally considered fair. Dogs are genuinely welcome here, with water and biscuits provided rather than just tolerated.

York Castle Museum is nearby for anyone wanting to explore the city's history, making the Blacksmith Arms a convenient base for sightseeing as well as a comfortable stop for a Sunday lunch.

We are currently staying at the local caravan park. The pub is only a 10 minute walk away, along a lovely countryside walk. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and plenty of choice of food and drink at reasonable prices. A lovely area at the rear of the pub to sit out, as well as tables at the front. Have eaten here twice. The Sunday carvery was delicious, generous portion of meat and so much choice of vegetables, sauces and gravy. Called again a couple of days later for tea. I had the gammon and my husband had the steak pie. Again, both generous portions and delicious meal. It is dog friendly with water available and doggy biscuits on the bar. They even have a a basket by the fire place with games to keep you or the little ones occupied. We had fun playing snakes and ladders 😁. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again

This has to be the best carvery we have ever had. Everything was done to perfection. I would highly recommend it. I am quite fussy with my food but this was on another level many thanks to the chef I think was called Scott. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Well done.

Having just spent 3 days flying from Oz to York we decided we needed a Sunday roast lunch as a treat. After reading several reviews on different establishments we decided on the Blacksmiths Arms and was so pleased we did. We both had the roast beef and while, initially, we thought that there wasn’t a great variety of side dishes at the Carvery we were totally wrong. There was 3 types of potatoes- roast, mashed and a very tasty, moreish potato and red pepper gratin. The best cauliflower cheese I’ve had in a long time, a delicious red cabbage mixture , a medley of baked carrot, parsnip and onion, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and yummy gravy. It all tasted perfectly home cooked. Throughout our meal the chefs refilled the serving dishes constantly with hot vegetables and different gratins. My wife especially loved the potato, carrot, parsnip and courgette gratin. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and recommend anyone wanting a delicious, home cooked Sunday lunch with some additional tasty dishes to try the Blacksmiths Arns.

Superb Sunday lunch, huge choice of meats and veg. Quality and quantity 10/10. Under new ownership but still as good as before. Choice of portion size small, medium and large was also really useful for mixed appetites
