About Watercress Lodges and Campsite

Tucked away near Ropley, this farm campsite unfolds across gently sloping meadows with beautiful views of the South Downs and the authentic Watercress Line steam train puffing past – a detail that delights children and nostalgic adults alike. Choose from unfussy non-electric grass pitches or upgrade to a bell tent or safari tent if you'd rather skip the guy ropes. Facilities cover the basics (showers, toilets, drinking water) and the site stays open year-round, though note there's no WiFi and pets aren't permitted.

The rural setting feels genuinely peaceful, perfect for families seeking a back-to-basics escape within easy reach of Alresford's Georgian streets and the wider Hampshire countryside. It's straightforward, friendly and honest about what it offers – a refreshing antidote to overly manicured sites.

What visitors say

Steve Upton

The Southern Electric Traction Group booked three lodges as part of our visit to the Mid Hants Railway in July. We found the accommodation to be comfortable, clean and ideally sited for visiting the railway, as well as local watering holes!! We would thoroughly and happily recommend them to any other visiting families or owning groups. Thank you for a superb stay :)

Lodges are nicely located with good views of South Downs National Park. Genuinely landscaped to blend in & with Railway station catering available from 10am to 4pm in summer holidays on running days or gala days

Fantastic location right for visiting the Watercress Line. Right next to Ropley Station for easy access. Toilet block was clean throughout and the washing up area served it's purpose.

Awesome little campsite, good amenities, plenty of space, fantastic views, you can go down to the station watch the trains or go into the main building where they have a viewing area of the restoration shed which was fascinating. Plenty to do for kids, lots of parking, helpful staff that run it and very easy to use.
