What guests say
Arrived for Sunday lunch as part of the package with The Watercress line and the hotel was a short walked from the station. Had our sunday lunch carvery which was really lovely. We all enjoyed it. Plenty of choice of vegetables. Everything was well cooked and all hot. Staff were all friendly and looked after us well. Thank you

The hotel website is not the sane in real life. My breakfast me u in room had old chewing gum stuck on it,I was advised lunch was not available and the dinner menu was one sheet of paper certai ly not a full menu as per website. Breakfast it seems on now .ust like a premier inn pf serve yourself no distinction between E glish or Continental which axxording to menu in room are different t prices. I had two are patches of carpet in my room at least they were under the desk unit and the same outside my door which I nearly tripped over a couple of times.when I booked I did say I was not that agile and a ground floor would be helpful this was ignored Overall very disappointed as I booked based on research and website with the attraction being it was walking distance from train station

I had a very disappointing experience at Alton House Hotel. From the moment I arrived, the receptionist was unwelcoming, arrogant, and outright rude, which set the tone for the entire stay. I stay in hotels four nights a week up and down the country, so I have a lot to compare against — and this was by far the worst one I have ever stayed in. Room 11 was completely misrepresented — it felt more like a cloakroom than a proper guest room. The space was cramped and uncomfortable, nothing like what you’d expect when booking. To make matters worse, the hotel advertises a flat screen TV, but what was actually provided was a tiny screen (around 10 inches), positioned in a way that made it practically impossible to watch. Due to all of the above, I chose to check out immediately. Overall, the service and facilities fell far below expectations. I would not recommend staying here unless significant improvements are made.

Sweet little hotel. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Clean. Confortable bedding. Could do with a little refresher especially with the carpets in the corridors. I would come back. Good breakfast.
