About Meadowbank

Rydal Water and the surrounding fell paths are within easy reach of Meadowbank, making this Ambleside B&B a practical base for walking, cycling and fishing days out. Pubs, restaurants and other local diversions are all close by, so evenings need little planning once you're back from the hills.

Meadowbank itself occupies an 1830s house on Rydal Road, run as a family business with an emphasis on getting guests out the door prepared for the day. Bedrooms include family rooms and en-suite bathrooms, with drinks available in room and free WiFi throughout. A full breakfast is served each morning, and there's a garden for relaxing when you're not out on the trails.

Practical touches make it well suited to active stays: bike storage, maps of local routes, luggage storage and free on-site parking are all provided, along with 24 hour reception for early starts or late returns. It's a straightforward, well-run stop for anyone planning to spend most of their time outdoors around Ambleside.

Absolutely wonderful. My partner and I stayed during the weekend of the Grasmere Gallop (around 10mins away by car), and it's been a pleasure. Very polite owner and host, delicious breakfast (I recommend the homemade bread), rooms very clean and comfortable. Will definitely come back when we're in the area again.

Great stay, would definitely recommend. I had a single room which was spacious and clean and a good bathroom. The breakfast was very good with plenty to choose from and Mike was happy to offer me vegan alternatives. The house is lovely and in a great location, 5 minutes walk into the centre of Ambleside

Great location, short walk into Ambleside. The house itself is fabulous, lovely features throughout. Mike made us feel so welcome and was the host with the most. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean. Lovely decor. We had breakfast both days and his attention to detail was fabulous. Our breakfast was lovely piping hot and plenty of it. Full English if you wanted plus more. Thanks Mike and we will be back.

We went for a weekend break and it was absolutely lovely , Mike was very welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable of the area, the room was lovely, very clean and the breakfast was excellent , especially the home made bread which was delicious ! It was a five minute walk to Ambleside and it was nestled away from the road with private parking which was good as you could leave your car and walk into Ambleside . Would definitely recommend it 100% to anyone and will definitely return. Most enjoyable stay !
