Argyll and Bute

Woodland and water define this corner of Argyll and Bute. Glendaruel Lodge occupies 150 acres of grounds that slope down to the River Ruel, with the Kyles of Bute—one of Scotland's most celebrated views—six miles away. The village of Tighnabruaich is within reach for a beach walk, shops and restaurants; Colintraive, closer still, has a pub serving food. A summer shop sits adjacent to the property itself.

The lodge contains three bedrooms and four bathrooms arranged over two floors. Bedrooms 2 and 3 have zip-and-link super king beds that can be split into singles; bedroom 1 has a king bed with its own shower room. Downstairs, the living and dining area opens onto a garden with patio and seating, and the kitchen is equipped for self-catering—with a gas cooker, dishwasher, and American fridge freezer. Wi-fi, heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The woodburner is stocked with logs.

The grounds offer serious advantages: free trout and salmon fishing on the Ruel beat runs from May through September, with a fishing hut available as a base or picnic spot. The woodland and surrounding countryside attract birds and wildlife. The whole property is yours alone, and one dog is welcome. Smoking is not permitted inside.

Huge rooms, well equipped, comfortable, nice walks along nearby road and hills. Nice to hear the waterfall and owls at night, and red squirrels in the garden. Single track road can be tricky, especially from the north. WiFi is just enough to keep up with email, news, etc, but not much else. Nearest 'big' shop is 30 minutes away in Dunoon. No shopping deliveries, but can click and collect.
