Colintraive sits on the Cowal Peninsula, a quieter corner of Argyll and Bute where wooded glens meet sea lochs. Home Farm Cottage occupies a converted farm steading here, surrounded by 150 acres of private woodland and grounds that shelter abundant bird and wildlife. The cottage itself is a two-bedroom property sleeping four, set in a courtyard that gives each dwelling its own sense of separation and calm.

Inside, the ground floor is one open-plan space with a living area, dining zone and kitchen together, plus a conservatory and bathroom with bath and shower. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a zip-and-link super kingsize (two single beds on request) and one with a kingsize bed. The essentials are covered—electricity, bed linen, towels, wi-fi and logs for the woodburner are included. The kitchen has a full-size cooker, microwave, American fridge freezer and washer-dryer, so self-catering is straightforward. A small enclosed garden with patio and barbecue opens off the cottage; you also have free access to the wider grounds and can fish for trout and salmon on the River Ruel beat between May and September using the fishing hut as a base.

The Kyles of Bute, one of Scotland's most photographed views, is six miles away. Tighnabruaich village with its beach, shops and restaurants is also nearby. A pub serving food sits at Colintraive, nine miles off. The cottage does not permit smoking. One dog is welcome.

The cottage was lovely. Cosy clean and a welcome break for the family. Pet friendly which is a real positive when choosing our vacation. The reason I gave four stars is that I couldn’t get the TV to work. The weather was grim at times so TV would have been appreciated.

Well kept spotless cottages with everything you need - there is even a games room with table tennis and snooker. Very quiet location - free wifi - there is no phone reception. Real peaceful retreat and within driving distance to explore all parts of Cowal. All the fixtures and furnishings to high standard. I would easily go back again.

We have come to Home Farm Cottages every year for the past 6 years or more. We love staying there, it is our home from home. But sadly this year we will not be able to come as planned. The prices have increased by a dramatic and unrealistic amount, more than double from last year. Making home farm simply too expensive for us. The price increase is rediculous and we simply don't have that much money as we are not rich. Sad to say but we will be holidaying elsewhere this year. Such a shame, hopefully when the prices reduce to normal levels we will return. Very disappointed.

Accommodation. Excellent. Comfort. Excellent. Warm. Relaxing. Appointments. Most tasteful and sensible. Decor. Except for a somewhat exaggerated painting of a Highland bull above the fireplace , tasteful. Heating. Underfloor with a gorgeous log fire. Location. To die for. Quiet. The only noise being the sound of an angry burn coming off the back of the hill. Excepting the odd glimpse of the moon if there is a break in the clouds, the outside is completely dark. Entertainment. There is a well-appointed games room with a billiards table, table tennis table, dart board and the like. We are looking forward to our next visit already. This is the first time I have ever given five points.
