About Gumber Farm
Tucked into the National Trust's Slindon Estate within the South Downs National Park, this pocket-sized sheep farm makes you earn your stay—and that's precisely the point. No vehicular access means you'll hike or cycle roughly a mile and a half from Bignor Hill or Northwood Junction, passing wildflower-carpeted woodland and ancient Roman remains along Stane Street. It's a wonderfully remote staging post for walkers and cyclists seeking proper downland immersion.
The communal kitchen covers basics (gas hob, kettle, crockery), there's a toilet-and-shower block, and both campfires and the site barbecue are encouraged—perfect for evenings under genuinely dark skies. Pack provisions for a couple of days; Fontwell's supermarket is about five miles off. Facilities can feel spartan (bring your own towel), but if you're after silence, stargazing and trails that stretch for miles, Gumber Farm delivers in spades.

What visitors say
I stayed here whilst walking the South Downs Way. It's a very quiet and remote spot, not far off the trail. I had the whole place to myself as nobody else turned up. It was lovely and peaceful. The kitchen, toilets and showers were brilliant. There are some picnic benches under a shelter which came in very useful during the heat wave. I would definitely stay here again.

Camped here recently and it was a solid little spot. I did a solo camp, there was plenty of space, the host was really kind and helpful, the location was remote and peaceful and the facilities were top notch. Easy booking system also, I literally called up, no fuss and sent payment. Can't fault it. Perfect when crossing the south downs. I will be staying here again for sure! Thank you!

Lovely spot to stop at while walking the SDW. Facilities are great, only extra thing that might be useful is a place to charge phones/powerpacks. Otherwise the campsite and bothy are well maintained, peaceful and relaxing.

This was the perfect campsite while walking the south downs way. Very well maintained and with sheltered benches right next to the tent pitches. Clean bathrooms and showers and a stocked kitchen made this feel a downright luxurious place to pitch your tent. A usb outlet would've been the cherry on top for those like me who overestimated their powerbank (or more realistically, underestimated their phone addiction).
