What visitors say
A real gem of a place, such lovely friendly and knowledgeable people, the ladies who do the ancestry were lovely and extremely helpful, i had a great lengthy chat with Mr and Mrs Pearson, they actually made you feel like you had just wandered into their kitchen, the displays upstairs were fascinating, to see a pre industrial loom working and to have someone using it and explaining exactly how it all worked was great, likewise in the clogging room you could handle all the items, the place is a real hands on kind of museum, where you can actually pick things up and get a real sense of the past, the volunteers/staff are all dressed as if they were from the victorian era and at the end of the visit was a lovely traditional tea room serving home made cakes and tea and coffee. Even this was served in proper vintage style tea cups and saucers. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and so did my dad. My only criticism of this place is, (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) some of the steps in the building are very steep and narrow, due to the age of it and although this wasn't a problem for me, my 76 year old dad, being a walking stick user did struggle, particularly getting down to the Pearson's Kitchen, but apart from that I have nothing else to complain about, I would also add that the place probably would be no good for very small children, however because it is run by people putting on living demonstrations, I would imagine school age children would find it fascinating and all for £5 entrance fee, what a bargain for 4 hours of entertainment. I will definitely be back. I have put a picture on of upcoming activities taking place for the rest of the year

We visited today. It was warm and friendly. We saw fresh bread being baked and spinning and weaving being demonstrated. The cafe was lovely with home made cake and china tea cups. All the volunteer staff were friendly and informative. We came away with hand spun and hand woven cloth and freshly made loaves.

A lovely, very interesting museum, with hand weaving looms, a Spinning Jenny, clog makers shop and many Victorian house furnishings. The tearoom is lovely and two of our party enjoyed some delicious Victoria sponge cake. The volunteers were very friendly and knowledgable and help give the museum a lovely atmosphere. Thanks to everyone there today.

Excellent museum. The staff were all dressed in period costume. The gentlemen operating the looms and the spinning appliances were very informative. The cafe ladies served us tasty cakes and coffee.
