What visitors say

ODEON Basingstoke offers a very welcoming experience overall. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the manager in particular went out of his way to assist us with redeeming vouchers and using the NHS Blue Light card, which was much appreciated. We visited with kids, and unfortunately our original movie was rated 12+, so some of us had to stay back. However, one of the staff members suggested switching to a screening of Super Mario, which turned out to be a great recommendation and really saved the day for the children. The cinema is neat and clean, including the toilets. The only downside was that the screen and seat quality wasn’t quite up to expectations. Still, the excellent customer service made the visit a positive one overall.

I recently visited Odeon Basingstoke (Screen 5) and purchased a premium ticket, expecting a high standard of comfort and service. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. The cinema appears poorly maintained, with facilities that feel outdated. The seats were old, worn out, and even appeared ripped and mouldy, which created an unpleasant and unhygienic atmosphere—especially considering the high ticket price. During the movie, the lights were left too bright. On two occasions approached staff and requested to dim the lights, I was met with an unhelpful and dismissive response, being told to “adjust myself it can’t dim.” This level of customer service is unacceptable. I regularly visit other cinemas and have consistently received much better service and facilities, so this experience was particularly frustrating. For the price paid, I expected a comfortable and professional environment, but instead felt that the experience was poor value for money. This was my first visit, and unfortunately, it will also be my last. I am also disappointed that it is difficult to find a proper customer service channel to raise concerns. Overall, I feel misled by the premium pricing given the substandard conditions. I strongly urge improvements in maintenance and customer service.

I’ve been going to the Odeon Cinema Basingstoke for over 30 years, and it’s been quite something to watch its journey over that time — both the highs and the gradual decline. Back in the day, it was always busy and full of life, with a small arcade and sweet parlour adding to the atmosphere. These days, it feels much quieter, with the old ticket entrance sitting unused and large areas inside feeling a bit empty. The seating isn’t the most comfortable anymore, and some of the screens could definitely do with an upgrade. That said, it’s still a great place to watch a movie, and there’s something about it that keeps me coming back. Every visit brings a real sense of nostalgia, and I genuinely appreciate that it’s still open and running after all these years. I do feel the old girl could really benefit from a major refresh. With some investment — especially in seating and screen quality — it could easily attract more people again and become a strong alternative to places like Vue Cinema Basingstoke. It’s a place with a lot of history and character — it just needs a bit of love to bring it back to its former glory.

Excellent cinema if your kid has sensory needs as it's usually dead quiet (pun intended). Staff are always wonderful with my little boy. We love going here, it's always clean and well kept. My son has ASD and they're so good with turning down the volume of the film if we ask.
