About Apollo Hotel Basingstoke

Set beside the Aldermaston Roundabout on the outskirts of Basingstoke, Apollo Hotel Basingstoke gives easy road access into the town and out across the Hampshire countryside, making it a practical base for exploring the wider area. The setting is more roadside convenience than scenic retreat, but the hotel makes up for it with the facilities tucked behind its doors.

There are 125 rooms, including family rooms, with drinks available in-room and free WiFi throughout. Guests can expect generously sized rooms, though maintenance is not always consistent, so it is worth setting expectations accordingly. A restaurant and bar operate on-site, alongside breakfast service, meeting rooms, luggage storage, porter and concierge services, and a lift for easier access to upper floors.

The indoor swimming pool and spa/sauna area are among the hotel's strongest draws, offering a place to unwind after a day on the road or in meetings. Staff are generally friendly, even if service can be slow at busier times. Nearby, guests will find a golf course, pubs, restaurants and other eateries, plus entertainment options, while free on-site parking makes arriving and leaving straightforward.

Terrible experience – far from a Junior Suite standard Rating: ⭐ / 5 I stayed at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke for a business trip, and it was a massive disappointment from start to finish. Check-in & Service: We were forced to wait until 4:00 PM just to get into our room. Because of this unacceptable delay, we almost missed a crucial business meeting. The Room (Junior Suite): We booked a Junior Suite, expecting a certain level of comfort, but the reality was disastrous. There is no air conditioning in the rooms—only one tiny desk fan. During the current hot weather, the room was absolutely unbearable. On top of that, the maintenance was shocking; there were holes in the bedroom wall and torn wallpaper. Breakfast: A complete disaster. Breakfast is supposed to start at 8:00 AM, but by 8:20 AM, there were still no eggs or hash browns available. The overall selection was incredibly poor and tragic. When they finally brought out the scrambled eggs, they tasted completely artificial—clearly made from powder or cheap liquid egg whites. This hotel is definitely not suitable for business travelers, and it does not deliver what it promises. I cannot recommend staying here

I had a very disappointing stay at this hotel and unfortunately would not recommend it. From the moment we arrived, things were disorganised and frustrating. We were left waiting around four hours just to get bed sheets, and even then we were given a duvet cover that had visible red stains on it, despite being told it had been washed. This made the room feel unhygienic and uncomfortable. The room itself was poorly maintained. There were spiders and webs present, and staff had used a lot of spider spray, which caused issues for me as I have bad asthma. The room was also extremely hot, with no air conditioning, a weak fan that barely worked, and a broken shower. Some rooms appeared to have newer TVs, but ours was very old and outdated. Basic standards were missing. There were red stains on the carpet, and overall cleanliness felt poor, which made the stay unpleasant. Service was also a major issue. Reception was understaffed, so everything took a very long time to sort out. Staff seemed overwhelmed and unhelpful. The swimming staff were rude and dismissive, and the information online was misleading. The website stated “unlimited swimming access,” but in reality it was limited to 45-minute sessions and only bookable twice a day, which is not unlimited at all. Breakfast was chaotic every morning. There was hardly any food or drinks available, long waits for cutlery, and no clean tables. Staff seemed unorganised, and even something as simple as getting a coffee was difficult. The facilities also did not match what was advertised. A waterfall shown in the photos was not working at all during our stay. Overall, the hotel felt poorly managed, unclean, and not as advertised. Between the maintenance issues, misleading information, lack of basic hospitality, and rude staff, I would not choose to stay here again.

I stayed at the Apollo Hotel a few weeks ago and unfortunately left my jewelry box behind, and to make matters worse, the staff was completely unable to locate it. When I followed up later, I received absolute silence, which shows a total lack of professionalism and customer care. Beyond this frustrating lost item incident, the overall cleanliness of the hotel left a lot to be desired, as the rooms were quite dirty. The entire operation feels completely disorganized and systemless, and the staff's human relations are deeply disappointing. I would strongly advise future guests to steer clear of this place, as management clearly does not care about their visitors once they check out.

We were very disappointed with our stay. From the moment we arrived, it was clear the hotel wasn't as advertised. The photos on Expedia were nothing like the reality. The front of the hotel looked untidy, and there were three men standing by the entrance drinking cans of beer, with bags full of more cans at their feet. It didn't create a welcoming or family-friendly first impression. At check-in, the receptionist explained he was new and wasn't included in the housekeeping group chat, so he had to check each room individually to see if it was ready. Although our room was available, the children's bed hadn't been set up, and there was only one towel and one cup for the three of us. The room also wasn't properly cleaned, with an empty Belvita biscuit wrapper under one bedside table, a tea bag tag under the other, and a contact lens wrapper under the desk. The bathroom door creaked loudly every time it was opened or closed, making it difficult not to wake our two young children, and there were no toiletries provided. The service at the bar was also poor. A member of staff was arranging sugar bowls while another guest and I waited to be served. I was holding my baby, who was becoming increasingly upset, yet we weren't acknowledged. There is also no aircon so the windows need to be open but there is emergency vehicles occasionally driving past with sirens on so the rooms are not quiet. Overall, this stay fell well below expectations. Poor cleanliness, poor organisation and misleading advertising meant we wouldn't stay here again.
