About Macdonald Bath Spa
Breakfast, a proper restaurant menu and a bar for evening drinks anchor daily life at Macdonald Bath Spa, a 131-room hotel set within landscaped gardens in the heart of Bath. Room service and in-room drinks are also on offer, useful for guests who'd rather not stray from their room after a day of sightseeing or treatments.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and the usual comforts, with accessible rooms available and a lift serving the hotel's four floors. The spa is the main draw beyond the bedrooms, with a heated outdoor pool, a choice of saunas and steam rooms, a hot tub and a gym, and staff on the treatment side, particularly the massage therapists, are consistently singled out as helpful and friendly. That said, some visitors have found the spa facilities themselves a little tired in places, so it's worth going in with realistic expectations rather than assuming everything is pristine.
Outside, there's a garden and picnic area with outdoor seating, and on-site parking is available for a charge, which guests tend to find convenient given the central location. Bath's Roman Baths and Bath Abbey are both close by, and nearby options extend to golf, fishing, horse riding and local pubs for those wanting to venture further afield. Pets are welcome, and meeting rooms and a concierge service cover more practical needs.
What guests say
Very good rooms buy the detial to cleaning could be better. It's the little things when it's a 5 star hotel that count. Also they need a map a proper map not their nonsense block diagram. Took me multiple tries to find my room. It was the other guests that were the most help. They knew I was lost. I am guessing they had the same problem.. Service was great except on the day I came I waited 10mins at the front desk Location was brilliant. Facilities where brilliant I would and have recommended this hotel to people already

Staying at the hotel was supposed to be a relaxing weekend but the hotel although impressive from the outside is just awful. The service staff are over stretched and unfortunately the service is nowhere near 5 star. The room is dirty, the sink is cracked in many places and the towel has brown marks all over it. The bath is filthy. I mention it quietly to the staff member that checked us in who said he would ask house keeping to check. Nothing was done except for a bottle of prosecco added to the room. The restaurant service is not great, waiters leaning over me to serve people next to me even though there is plenty of room to serve from the right. It really is bad here. Definitely not worth the money. We had 3, 3 course meals at a cost of 370. It just wasnt worth it at all. I have honestly stayed in 3 star hotels with better food, levels of cleanliness and service. Would not recommend.

The location was excellent, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The building itself is beautiful and full of character, although it could benefit from better maintenance. The outdoor hydro pool was a little smaller than expected, and the surrounding area felt quite limited. We had booked a three-course dinner and were disappointed by the long wait between courses, but the food was delicious and well worth enjoying once it arrived. The gardens are lovely, and the hotel is conveniently located next to a beautiful park, making it a great place for a relaxing walk. A special thank you to Rebeka at reception, who was exceptionally friendly, kind, and helpful throughout our stay. Dimitrii, the restaurant manager, also provided warm and attentive service. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and enjoyed our visit. With a few improvements to the facilities and service timing, the experience could be even better.

It was amazing experience, and I was going to put 5 stars, despite some spa facilities didn’t work, but in the end of our stay the experience was ruined. We’ve ordered an afternoon tea on the terrace and the seagull has stolen a salmon sandwich from the table. One waitress offered us a replacement, and the other one told that they can’t do it, also the waiting time for the food and for the bill was very long, so we’ve missed an hour of our spa time just waiting. No compensation was offered. It was also hard to book spa treatments as both website and phone didn’t work properly.

Some reviews mention the spa facilities can be neglected.
