What diners say

Megan Parker

Considering it is called the "barrel" project there isn't a single barrel aged beer on offer (neither on the draft list nor in the beer fridge). The décor seems to accentuate fake advertising just to try and portray it captures a market. There are far better pubs locally that are authentic to their offering (i.e. "it ain't much of it ain't Dutch", which is superbly authentic and exceptionally welcoming, among other pubs in the arches)

We went at lunch and It was quiet, we had a nice beer and hamburger. We would like to go back in the evening so we can enjoy a busier social life.

The Barrel Project felt like one of the standard bars on the Bermondsey Beer mile. I'm not really sure because we only went here on this day and I've not been to many others around there but I have an inkling. The beer here was quite nice but I only had one variety of pint (Jungle something). This was good and the others sounded nice so probably are. This cost £6.95, kind of to be expected around here. Very busy on a Saturday in October but we managed to bag a table outside, You will likely be stood up for a while if you come at peak periods but can then find a seat after a while with some guile and cunning.

Stumbled across this absolute gem after visiting the infamous ‘Bermondsey beer mile’. Me and my husband were greeted by the friendliest staff who had excellent knowledge and recommendations of the beers on tap. We ended up going for one of their ‘sour flights’ to get a broad taste of what they had to offer. We were slightly disappointed there were no ales available, however my husband went for one of the stouts instead as per Elliott’s recommendation and was thrilled. Once again thank you to all the wonderful staff at the barrel project and Elliott who made us feel extremely welcomed. We will definitely be recommending the barrel project to our friends back in the States.
