About Staycity Aparthotels Birmingham Central Newhall Square

Charlotte Street sits among the canals and converted warehouses of Birmingham's city centre, and it's here that Staycity Aparthotels Birmingham Central Newhall Square offers a base with more space than the average hotel room. The surrounding streets mix restaurants, bars and entertainment venues, with the Utilita Arena within easy reach for anyone visiting for a gig or event.

Rooms are set up as proper apartments, with kitchens for cooking your own meals alongside the usual en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and free WiFi. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and beds and showers are a particular strong point. A bar and snack bar cover simpler needs, breakfast is served for those who'd rather not cook, and there's a gym on-site along with laundry service, luggage storage and business facilities for longer or work-related stays.

The staff are a genuine highlight, with the breakfast team singled out for going out of their way to help. It amounts to good value for the location, with plenty of pubs, restaurants and things to do within walking distance of Charlotte Street.

Every time I have visited Birmingham and needed a hotel to stay at I’ve always chosen Staycity. Very clean rooms, friendly staff and great location. The rooms is also equipped with everything you would need on your stay. They even have the convenience of having an Uber kiosk right in the reception area which is easy to use and my uber got there within 2 minutes. The bed is also very comfortable and spacious. I will definitely be back.

The woman checking us in was lovely and professional. We were traveling with our assistance dog and she asked for paperwork to prove it, which I provided after searching through emails. Later when I came down to grab delivery I mentioned that assistance dogs aren’t required to have “paperwork”, and she might pass this along to her supervisor because dealing with disabilities is already a constant hassle and they should consider changing how they approach things. Obviously, I understood this was not her personal policy. The manager appeared to be listening in and then began addressing me saying that it is their policy to have proof. I said I understood but pulled up information about the Equality Act and assistance dogs that confirmed what I had mentioned earlier. Then she pulled up the Staycity website saying they charge extra for dogs and would be charging an extra cleaning fee. Keep in mind I had already shown proof that our dog was an assistance dog and she behaved perfectly the entire time. I informed her that this was discrimination and that an assistance dog is not considered a pet, but more like a medical device. Additionally, the law doesn’t require “proof” as there is no comprehensive assistance dog registry. Additionally, I had no personal vendetta, just wanted to make things easier for the next person. Just leaves a gross feeling.

Really lovely stay in Birmingham Staycity. The lady on reception (I think she was called Michelle) asked the purpose of my stay, I explained I am deaf and was visiting for deaf expo at the NEC. The reception area was quite busy with lots of groups of men at the time, so when she handed me the room card she simply showed me the room number rather than telling me in the open reception area. Room was very clean, kitchen had everything you needed for a short stay and the bed was really comfortable. It was easy to walk from both the train and bus station too. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.
