Serendipity Lovesya

Dined in for lunch on a Saturday & it wasn't too busy, although we did have a booking. The cocktails and wine were great & the waiter helpfully suggested cocktails (both alcoholic & non-alcoholic) for our group to try. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre. The starters of milk bread & cornish crab cakes were a pleasant start to the meal. Fish and chips was okay. All went downhill from here :( pork schnitzel was dry & lacked seasoning and the piri piri chicken combo to share for two people also lacked flavour. The piri chicken was bland and it appeared that the sauce was poured over the chicken and the chicken wasn't seasoned. Best thing about the piri chicken meal was the corn on the cob ribs. Not enjoyable at all. For what it costs to eat at the Mercer, definitely no longer feels worth the cost. Used to be such a nice place to eat but the quality of the food has dropped somewhat in our opinion. Venue is always good for aesthetics but the food matters too! Would not be in a hurry to return.

Wonderful treat from the wife. I wasn’t expecting the food to be so good. We had the special flat iron steak and prawns was delicious. They also catered for my 12 week old baby, warmed milk and put us in the best possible position with a pram. Thank you guys. Was a really great experience. - Sharper waiting on drinks would be my only slight critique and make the beers colder.

I went here for the Afternoon Tea. The savory items (small sandwiches) were pretty good the scones course was also good, they had an interesting Earl Grey jam. Unfortunately the sweets course was not good. Every item was some combination with plain white cake, a berry coulis, and cheap chocolate. It was fairly empty when I went (on a rainy Sunday afternoon in autumn) so service was pretty good.

Beautiful rooftop and genuinely lovely, attentive staff, no complaints there at all. Unfortunately the food let the experience down. The executive chef seems rather too fond of garlic, which turns up in almost every dish, including the bread. The mascarpone “dessert” was the oddest choice, essentially a bowl of the cheese itself with a few berries scattered on top, when mascarpone is normally an ingredient rather than a dish in its own right. Lovely venue, friendly team, but the kitchen could do with reining things in and giving a bit more thought to what guests actually want to eat.
