About Suncliff Hotel

Suncliff Hotel has 99 rooms set along East Overcliff Drive in Bournemouth, with the town centre less than a mile away. It's a large, traditional hotel built around guest comfort rather than modern polish, with free on-site parking making it an easy base for exploring the Dorset coast, and the New Forest National Park within reach for a day trip.

Rooms are straightforward and comfortable, though some are on the older side and not all have air conditioning, so it's worth bearing in mind in warmer months. Guests get the benefit of a restaurant and bar on-site, daily breakfast and free WiFi, along with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym for those who want to unwind without leaving the building. The kitchen has a good reputation, and the overall experience is often described as good value for what's included.

Staff are consistently noted as helpful and accommodating, and the hotel also handles weddings and meetings, with porter and concierge services on hand. Pets are welcome, and there's a garden to stretch your legs in. Beyond the hotel, Bournemouth's pubs, restaurants and entertainment are all close by, with the seafront just a short walk from the front door.

A Fantastic Valentine’s Evening at The Suncliff Hotel My husband and I visited The Suncliff Hotel in Bournemouth for a special Valentine’s Day dinner, and it was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. While we didn't stay overnight this time and cannot comment on the rooms, the quality of the dining and entertainment certainly made for a memorable date night. The Dining Experience The highlight of the evening was the three-course meal. It is often difficult to find a celebratory menu that feels indulgent yet remains healthy, but the chefs here managed it perfectly. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented on the plate—you can tell there is a real focus on quality ingredients and a refined culinary style. Atmosphere and Crowd In terms of the atmosphere, we found it to be a very comfortable and sophisticated setting. It felt particularly well-suited for a middle-aged and older demographic (60+). It was refreshing to be in a place that feels mature and elegant, avoiding the loud or frantic pace of some of the more "trendy" spots in town. Service and Entertainment The service was impeccable. The staff were incredibly friendly and maintained a high level of professionalism throughout the night. They were attentive and proactive, making sure that every guest had exactly what they needed. To top off the night, there was a live singer after dinner. The music was excellent, and the performer did a great job of interacting with the public, which created a warm, lively, and inclusive atmosphere. We had a brilliant time and would highly recommend The Suncliff for anyone—especially those looking for a high-quality, relaxed evening in Bournemouth.

I had been here 10 years ago. Couldn't imagine it could be even worse than then. Rooms needing renovation more urgently than many in Gaza, tiny, hot, 70s-atmosphere without the charm of that period and evidently without having seen renovation since then. Simply incredible. To reach the beach you need to walk for 30 minutes. No a/c anywhere. This is what makes hotels in England really special. And the heat is no surprise anymore. Only places like this are not prepared. In rooms with 8m² (!) you simply cannot sleep under these circumstances.

Lovely hotel, very clean, great shower, very comfy beds. All staff very friendly food and service very good. Drinks a bit on the expensive side but it’s to be expected in a hotel. Great buffet breakfast with fantastic choice Friday night Karaoke night so very loud when you are trying to eat and talk so you have to shout at each other. Good location for beach but a long walk into town …. about 30mins unless you know the area, Unless you book direct then you have to pay £12 per day to park. All in all a great weekend away for a family birthday celebration

We had really high hopes for our stay, especially as the staff were genuinely friendly and the location itself is beautiful. Unfortunately, the room completely let the experience down. We were placed in a small room with bunk beds, and the sheets were visibly dirty on arrival, which was extremely off-putting. To make matters worse, the heating was stuck on high, turning the room into what genuinely felt like a sauna. It was unbearably uncomfortable to spend any time in there. We raised the issue with reception multiple times over our two-night stay, asking for the heating to be turned off, but were repeatedly told it was on a timer and nothing could be done. While they did provide desk fans, they made little to no difference — the room remained excessively hot. We also requested a room change, but unfortunately received no response or resolution. Travelling as a family of five, being cramped into a small, overheated room in the middle of spring (with outdoor temperatures around 21°C) made the situation even more frustrating. What should have been an enjoyable trip ended up being very uncomfortable and disappointing. It’s a real shame, as the hotel has potential, but this experience ultimately ruined the stay for us.
