About The Cumberland Hotel - OCEANA COLLECTION

East Overcliff Drive sits above Bournemouth's seafront, a short stretch from the beach and close to the walking and cycling paths that trace the cliff top. It's here that The Cumberland Hotel - OCEANA COLLECTION occupies its spot, part of the Oceana Collection, with 108 rooms across the property, some looking straight out to sea and fitted with air conditioning.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, and family and accessible options are available, along with drinks and room service for those who'd rather not leave. Downstairs there's a restaurant serving generous breakfasts and three-course dinners, plus a bar, and outdoor seating in the garden. A heated outdoor pool is kept clean and well maintained, and guests can also make use of the indoor pool and spa or sauna. That said, some rooms have been reported as a little tired, so it's worth bearing in mind that the upkeep can vary.

Staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive, and the hotel has facilities for meetings and weddings alongside porter and concierge services. Free on-site parking is provided, pets are welcome, and the surrounding area offers golf, fishing, watersports and plenty of pubs and restaurants within easy reach.

We stayed here for 3 nights the other day. We had a superior double balcony room with a sea view. The room was nicely decorated, modern styling, decent TV, a few rough edges especially in the bathroom (the bath panel was all cracked, looked like someone had gotten excited with the sealant gun and screws, the shower screen had seen better days). We were on the 4th floor, the water pressure in the shower was really poor, especially for the cold water. The room had air-con that worked well. It had a double bed which was a bit disappointing as the hotel website mentioned a king bed. The hotel itself is spacious, a couple of restaurants. The food and service were okay but nothing special. We had a fillet steak, mine was good but my Wife's was really gristly. They might have rectified it if we'd asked but the service was fairly slow and couldn't be bothered with the faff. Had some morning snacks also, they were nice (pastries and teacakes), took 35 minutes to arrive though and it wasn't busy. There was also a bit of confusion around the England World Cup match. I saw a Facebook post saying that they'd be be showing the games but when I asked (which was only the day before the semi-final) they said they 'might' be. They didn't end up showing it and said it was on in the sister hotel next door but that had weirdly laid-out seating, small screens that kept timing-out etc. so I watched it in my room in the end. I heard they had some guest behaviour issues during the previous England game (people jumping in the pool, drinking too much etc.), not sure if that was true but if so then just say it rather than looking poorly organised. The pool area was the main reason we booked the hotel. It was pretty clean, very cold, had loungers and sofas, chilled music etc. One thing that made the pool experience not as good...humans. The hotel needs to put some guidance up seeing as people don't seem to have the intelligence to behave in a considerate way. I got fed up with people videoing by the pool. I don't want to be on your stupid social media video. Just enjoy your holiday and stop showing off. People putting phones on loudspeaker, it was either some div playing music, watching a Tiktok video or someone just talking drivel to their Mum or Aunty Doris. Just hold it up to your ear, or wait until you get back to the room to tell your Mum what you had for breakfast. I did enjoy the hotel but I wouldn't rush back. This was more to do with the other guests and the fact that Bournemouth was a bit 'sketchier' than it used to be. I wouldn't recommend walking around the back of the hotel on an evening some weird characters about. Decent enough hotel that's clearly making an effort, just don't expect it to be fancy. More a 3.5 than a 4 star (hotel and my review).

Yes the hotel is old. But the staff are amazing, the pool is great and you have everything you need. It’s not Dubai, and I love that. It’s like being back in time, not over modern or pretentious. I want to thank every member of staff including the night manager on 31 July who came to room 111. He was very patient and solved our issue. I also want to thank the member of staff who came to room 111 on the same day before the manager regarding our issue of a broken fridge. He was so friendly and a real people person! We got a brand new fridge, and every single member of staff is just lovely! We leave on August 2nd so we are still here. But leaving a review now as I didn’t want to forget to do so. Thank you! Perfect British staycation with amazing staff!

Wow what great hotel! From the moment we walked in the door we were well looked after. I had requested a quiet room 420, big room too with a lovely comfy bed and huge bathroom. Food is excellent and service feels like 5 star. Definitely going to come back. Thank you my friends birthday special. Every member of staff from reception to the cleaners deserves recognition for their service. 😊

This hotel is a great location, just a 10 min walk from town. The zigzag path is great down to the beach. Friendly welcoming staff. We booked 3 superior king rooms, just be aware - our room was much smaller than the other two which was disappointing! The bathroom was tiny! Air con worked well but started dripping lots of water on our 2nd night!! Its a very very noisy hotel - 1st night Elvis tribute, 2nd night private wedding - both nights music went on til 1am! Very loud! Parking is very limited, we just fell lucky. The outdoor pool is heated & so nice but we could not smell chlorine & never saw it cleaned! There is one tiny lift which is crazy considering the size of this hotel! Breakfast is buffet style & very nice. The refurb is ongoing! We would stay again but would definitely ensure we had a bigger room!
