About The Felin Fach Griffin
The Felin Fach Griffin sits in a small village on the A470 between Brecon and Hay-on-Wye, with the main Beacons ridge on one side and the Black Mountains on the other. It has been run since 2000 by the Inkin family, who also own the Gurnard's Head in Cornwall, and it works to the same formula: a serious kitchen, a proper bar that villagers still drink in, and rooms upstairs that are comfortable without being fussy. The front room, with its sofas and open fire, is closer to a sitting room than a lounge bar.
Eight bedrooms sit above and behind the pub. They are decorated plainly in muted colours with wood panelling, Welsh wool blankets, Vispring beds, down pillows and fresh flowers. There are Roberts radios and books but deliberately no televisions, which the inn makes a point of. Rooms vary noticeably in size, from compact doubles to Room 8, which takes the whole top floor and has a beamed ceiling and space to spread out. Views are of the courtyard, the lane or the fields behind.
Dinner is the main event. The kitchen cooks a short daily menu built around Welsh meat, fish landed on the Welsh coast and vegetables from a nearby market garden that grew out of the inn's own organic kitchen garden. The wine list is long and unusually well chosen for a village pub. Breakfast is unhurried, with your own pot of coffee and eggs cooked to order, and dinner, bed and breakfast rates are usually the sensible booking.
It suits walkers, cyclists and book buyers heading for Hay, and couples who want good food and a quiet night rather than facilities. Dogs are welcome in some rooms. There is no spa, no lift and no room service, and the nearest supermarket is in Brecon, ten minutes away. Parking is free at the side of the inn.

We didn't stay overnight, but if the rooms are anything like the rest of the experience it's a definite 5! The pub and restaurant are exceptional. To describe this as a Gastro pub does not do it justice. The entire experience was perfect. The food selection was great, and every dish we had was something really special, not run of the mill. Great beer too! Can't wait to come back the next time we're in the area.

Eight of us spent the night at this fabulous destination restaurant with rooms in Brecon as part of some birthday celebrations. We were all blown away - the rooms, the food, the drinks, the service were all exceptional and brilliant value for money too. A hidden gem that is absolutely worth a visit. In the summer the grounds are beautiful to sit out in overlooking the countryside and the kitchen garden is lovely to wander through. I can imagine the log fires in the winter give it a homely vibe. Highly recommend, we will be back!

The menu showcased high quality local ingredients prepared with real care and creativity, and the dining experience felt special without ever feeling formal or pretentious. The setting is equally impressive, surrounded by beautiful countryside and perfectly located for exploring the Brecon Beacons while still feeling like a peaceful retreat to return to at the end of the day. If you are looking for a boutique country hotel with exceptional food, character, and service, The Felin Fach Griffin is difficult to beat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

Amazing service, lovely place and just incredible food. We had the lunch for less and everything was perfect- They also catered for one of us being vegan really well. Our 2nd time here and hopefully not our last!
