About RUBY Pub & Hotel

RUBY Pub & Hotel occupies a straightforward pub building on Coldean Lane in Brighton, with the bar and restaurant forming the heart of the place and bedrooms set above and around it. It's a no-frills, friendly sort of set-up rather than a grand hotel, and the rooms reflect that: comfortable en-suite doubles, though on the small side, with drinks available in-room and free WiFi throughout.

Downstairs there's a restaurant, snack bar and outdoor seating alongside the main pub, with breakfast served each morning and a Sunday roast that stands out among the food on offer. Staff are generally helpful and accommodating, though service has been known to slip at busier times. Practical extras include 24-hour reception, laundry service, meeting rooms and free on-site parking, useful for anyone passing through rather than settling in for a long stay.

The location suits walkers and cyclists, with routes nearby, and golf, fishing and watersports all within reach for a day out. Further pubs, restaurants and entertainment are close by too, making it a convenient base for exploring Brighton without needing to travel far for an evening out.

It's quite rub down. The room I had was just big enough to fit a double bed in it. Unfortunately, it I stayed during the heatwave, the room faced the outside pub seating area and a very busy road, so trying to sleep with traffic and noisy drinkers was impossible, not only that, there is no air conditioner in the room, the ceiling fan didn't work and they had kindly supplied a small desk fan, which only moved hot air around the room. The shower and toilet were fine. I had booked and paid for 2 nights, but only stayed the one night, I couldn't bear another night of no sleep, didn't even bother to get a refund, I just wanted out of there. There is very little parking supplied on site, which they charge 20 quid a night for parking on the driveway in front of the pub, otherwise it's street parking. The pub itself looked very neglected and run down. No food or breakfast on offer. I can't really complain that much, it was cheap and the room and location reflected that. Might be a bit biased but I really couldn't wait to get away.

Booked direct with pub (saved £10 compared to a booking site). Great location with free on street parking and bus stop direct into Brighton. I needed to stay out of town for a funeral (wanted to get to Crem easily). Friendly welcome from pub staff. Room immaculate. Small but perfectly formed. Newly refurbished. Bathroom excellent. Room just big enough with most things you would need (including a window that opens, air con (didn’t use) and a stand fan. Telly. Tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast (there’s an inclusive price on their direct website) available Thurs to Sunday. Conked to order by lovely friendly chef. Will stay again.

Happy to recommend this hotel. Very friendly, excellent service. Good range of beers in the pub and great value food on the menu. Room was perfect and well appointed and surprisingly quiet. I will gladly stay here again.
