The Old Reading Room
Broadland
Couples and small families will find The Old Reading Room a comfortable retreat in Salhouse, a Broadland village with a pub within walking distance. Built in 1897 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, the single-storey property was completely refurbished in 2023 while retaining its period character and original architectural details. One king-size bedroom and a shower room serve the ground floor, where an open-plan living space combines lounge, kitchen and sun room. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and all the basics; a wood-burning stove warms the living area on cooler evenings.
An enclosed courtyard garden with patio and seating looks onto mature planting, offering a private outdoor space. Parking for two cars is on site. One well-behaved pet stays free. Essentials including electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are covered. No smoking is permitted indoors.
The location works well for exploring: Salhouse Broad lies a short walk away, and from the doorstep you can access local walking and cycling routes. The Norfolk coast—including quieter beaches at Sea Palling, Horsey and Winterton—is roughly 30 minutes' drive, as are the Broads and Norwich city centre. The village pub serves food within easy reach on foot.
