Eastbridge Canterbury - The Yeomans Cottage, Eastbridge Hospital
Canterbury
View on Google MapsCanterbury's medieval heart centres on its cathedral, but the city's history runs deeper still. Eastbridge Hospital, built in 1190 as a refuge for pilgrims, stands near the Franciscan Gardens with The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge close by. The Yeomans Cottage occupies part of this ancient complex, offering a night or two within stone walls that have sheltered travellers for over 800 years.
The cottage is yours alone—a ground-floor living space with kitchen, and a first-floor bedroom and shower room. You get a king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave and dishwasher, and a living area warmed by gas heating. Original features—exposed beams, old stonework—sit alongside modern essentials: wi-fi, electricity and towels are all provided. There's parking for one car on site. Note that children are not welcome, and smoking is not permitted.
Walking distance takes you to pubs within a mile and the cathedral itself. The location makes sense for exploring the city on foot, whether you're drawn to its Norman architecture, museums, or simply the texture of streets that have carried pilgrims, traders and visitors since medieval times.
