About Elgano Guest House
Elgano is a compact, independently run guest house at 58 Cathedral Road, at the Pontcanna end of the terrace. The rooms have been done in bold colours with modern en-suite bathrooms, flat-screen televisions and tea and coffee facilities — brighter and more contemporary than the traditional Cathedral Road style, and priced below most of the city-centre hotels.
The practical draw is parking. Guests who book direct through the guest house website or by telephone get a space on site at no charge, which in this part of Cardiff is worth having; residents' permit schemes make on-street parking difficult for visitors. Free wi-fi runs throughout, and breakfast arrangements are straightforward and unfussy.
Sophia Gardens and Bute Park are a two-minute walk, putting Glamorgan's county cricket ground and the riverside path immediately on the doorstep, and Cardiff Castle is around fifteen minutes on foot through the park. The shops and shopping centre in the centre are a little over a mile away. Pontcanna's own cafés, bakeries and restaurants are close enough that many guests never go further for dinner.

Came here for one night when Metallica was playing the next day. The person who attended was very friendly and explained everything to me. The room was quiet and the location was convenient for me. However I did not like that there was not AC in the room or a fan, which would be very handy for the summer weather. I would have appreciated cleaner towels and bed linen (see photos). Apparently the restaurant is very popular and serves very good food so that’s handy. The price / value ratio was not great in my opinion. I paid about £160 for a night when in reality the price should be half of that (but that’s when you get with dynamic pricing when there are big events in the area). Overall the beds were comfortable and the room met the minimum requirements I needed.

Needed a room for a night after the Hundred game. This was by far the best price I found. Lovely modern room with comfortable bed and shower etc. Yes there is no breakfast included but a couple of quality pubs serving that within a short walk. The fan in the room was much appreciated

Friendly and service minded staff. Comfortable bed, big pillows. Slept very well. Clean room. Loved my three nights! I would have loved it if breakfast was on offer. But overall a very good stay.

Room was quiet, clean and comfy. Plenty of electric sockets for phones etc. a good size mirror to get ready in front of. But the room was very small and the double bed was pretty snug for two people. The bathroom door didn't shut properly there was a slight gap at the top where the folding doors joined meaning I could hear my partner on the toilet ! The room was perfectly acceptable for one night but due to the small size not suitable for 2 people for any longer.
