About Pontcanna Inn
The Pontcanna Inn is a pub with rooms in the truest sense: a busy neighbourhood bar and dining room downstairs, ten individually decorated bedrooms above. It stands on Cathedral Road at the point where the Victorian villas give way to Pontcanna proper, a fifteen to twenty minute walk from Cardiff Castle either along the road or, more pleasantly, through Bute Park and across the Taff.
Downstairs the kitchen turns out pub classics and Sunday roasts, there are screens for rugby and football, and the outside terraces fill on a warm evening. Both the bar and several of the rooms are dog-friendly, and the whole place is relaxed about children, which makes it an easy option for families who would rather not stay in a large hotel. Part of the Young's group, it maintains a consistent standard without feeling corporate.
Pontcanna itself is the reason to choose this over a city-centre room. The surrounding streets hold independent delis, coffee shops and some of Cardiff's better restaurants, Sophia Gardens and Llandaff Fields are minutes away, and the Taff Trail runs past for walkers and cyclists. Expect noise from the bar at weekends if you take a room at the front, and note that parking is on-street.

What guests say
Lovely pub and atmosphere. The hospitality is incredulous, I wish I had found this spot sooner. Harry Henwood is a credit to the pub and the bar staff. He deserves a raise for the attention to detail and the amour of care he gives to customers. Back rooms are great. Tried them out with Harry (afore mentioned) and saw stars. Would love to see him again but unfortunately have a restraining order. Cider is great and a good pour of Guiness. Great place to see the World Cup. Ellie behind the bar also very lovely.

Stayed at the Pontcanna in for 8 days while visiting Cardiff, and had an awesome experience. First of all, the people there are awesome. Noah, Jamie, Rosie, and all the other staff will make your stay extra special. The rooms are very comfortable, quiet and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable - we had a great sleep. Even though there was a working pub on the main floor, our room (#6) was very quiet. The bathroom is roomy and well appointed. The shower was especially nice (lots of hot water, good flow, etc.). Get the included breakfast special when you book. It is essentially an all you can eat breakfast that is made to order. The Pontcanna Inn is only an 8 minute walk down a green space to Cardiff castle and the shopping district. We had a great time and highly recommend this hotel. 5* all the way.

We booked a room prior to attending a concert, we were not disappointed. We had a lovely warm welcome and a comprehensive introduction to the hotel, the facilities and late entry access. The room was of a high specification, immaculate and the toiletries and tea / coffee products were also quality products. The bed, bed linen and towels were fresh and fluffy and extremely comfortable. Every member of staff was polite and helpful. We didn't eat there as time didn't permit, continental breakfast looked good. We would highly recommend as a hotel facility.

Exceptional service, Harry came out to our table and topped up our drinks every time we were nearly finished. Harry went above and beyond to accommodate us, and make our night incredibly enjoyable. I hope everyone gets to experience this great pub, and Harry’s exceptional service.
