About The Mousetrap Inn
The Mousetrap Inn has the feel of a traditional coaching inn, a compact ten-room hotel built around a bar and restaurant rather than sprawling corridors and function rooms. It sits in the Lansdowne area of Cheltenham, on the Gloucestershire side of the Cotswolds, making it a practical base for exploring the surrounding countryside and market towns.
Rooms are comfortable rather than showy, with the emphasis firmly on the ground floor, where the restaurant and bar do much of the talking. The kitchen has built a reputation for generous, satisfying food, particularly its beef pie and Sunday roast, backed by a well-chosen range of beers kept in good condition. Some guests have found the food pricing on the steep side, though the portions and quality are said to justify the bill for most. Breakfast is included, and free WiFi, 24-hour reception and free on-site parking cover the practical needs of an overnight stop or longer stay.
Staff are consistently described as attentive and friendly, adding to the warm, lived-in atmosphere that runs through the building. Pets are welcome, making it an easy choice for travellers touring the Cotswolds with dogs in tow, and Cheltenham itself is on hand for those wanting a wider day out beyond the inn's fireside.

What guests say
We had a pleasant dining experience at The Mousetrap Inn. The food was nice, with the cauliflower purée being absolutely divine and the sea bass beautifully cooked and nicely seasoned. Overall, the meal was good. The atmosphere and interior were lovely, creating a warm and welcoming setting. However, the service could have been better, as it was a little slow considering there were not many people dining at the time. We also noticed that some of the glasses were slightly dirty, which was a little disappointing. We also wished there had been a slightly better variety of options for pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans. While the dishes we had were good, a broader selection would make the menu more inclusive for different dietary preferences. Despite these minor issues, we had a good experience overall.

Had a fantastic evening at The Mouse trap celebrating my wife’s 50th. Made to feel very welcome indeed, even decorated the table for us. Quality of food and drink was exceptional , service was excellent too. Michelle was a fantastic host and clearly takes pride in her pub and customers. Will certainly visit again “Phil and Grant” Thanks again Kev, Katrina, Dave and Liz

We absolutely loved visiting The Mousetrap this weekend. We originally popped in on Friday night for a quick drink, but the staff were so welcoming and friendly that we ended up returning on Saturday evening for dinner after they kindly squeezed us in. We’re a Liverpudlian couple living in Little Rissington and, if we’re honest, we don’t often head into Bourton-on-the-Water because it can be so busy — but we’re so glad we gave The Mousetrap a try. The beef brisket was honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was brilliant and every member of staff we met was attentive, friendly and genuinely lovely throughout. This will definitely become one of our locals from now on. Highly recommend!
