About The Commercial Bar and Hotel

Chester's old streets and historic core are within easy reach of The Commercial Bar and Hotel, set on St Peters Church Yard right in the city centre. It's a hotel built around its social side, with three bars on site putting on live music and DJs, so it suits guests who want to be in the thick of things rather than tucked away somewhere quiet.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and the option of drinks brought straight to the room, alongside a straightforward, comfortable style. Breakfast is served on site, and there's outdoor seating for guests who'd rather sit outside than in one of the bars. Reception operates around the clock, and pets are welcome, which makes it a flexible base for different kinds of trips.

Beyond the hotel doors, Chester offers walking and cycling routes, a nearby golf course, and plenty of pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy walking distance. It's a hotel that puts guests close to the city's attractions while keeping its own bars as the main draw for evenings in rather than out.

Recently stayed from 20 - 23 / 07 Best things about the Commercial are the staff and the location .... Sadly that's were the positives end. The whole place needs a total refurbishment! Stair carpet half way up to the bedrooms is absolutely filthy. In our room we had a four poster bed. Linen was clean but there was a disgusting dark grey throw on the bed full of pulls. We had two chairs and a stool (under a dressing table) in the room all of which had broken legs. It was so dark and only had 3 small lamps with dirty plastic shades and no main light. The wallpaper had been partly ripped off. Shower tray had a crack right across it. The safety rails on the bath were loose and ready to come off. Plug in the bath didn't close so to have a bath you had to leave the water running until you got out. On a positive note though it was nice and bright and the white towels spotless. Really disappointed with the whole experience ...

I cannot recommend The Commercial highly enough. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The bathroom huge with separate bath and shower and again, pristine. The beds were comfortable. Paul and his team go above and beyond to make your stay pleasant - their hospitality is second none. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you so much.

Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. The staff were unbelievably rude and acted like customers were an inconvenience rather than paying guests. The bar itself was filthy — sticky tables, dirty glasses, and the whole place just felt unclean and badly managed. To make things worse, there were issues kicking off around the bar and the bouncers seemed far more interested in standing around on their phones than actually dealing with any trouble. Completely unprofessional and made the atmosphere feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Plenty of better bars/hotels around that actually care about customer service and basic cleanliness.

2024 we went here after the Chester Cup day it it was honestly one of the best nights out I've ever had. Inspired stuff. But the two years since have been woeful. Either they've changed DJ or the DJ has had a personality transplant because the music has gone so bad even Helen Keller is complaining about it. Tonight, we had Bonnie Tyler playing while the DJ sang over the best bits in an appalling Karaoke effort. Bonnie is currently in a coma but I reckon she would awaken just to chin this amateur who is slaughtering one of her classics. Please Commercial, put an actual DJ on after the signature day of the Chester May festival because you have fallen into a real nadir.
