About The Chester Grosvenor
The Chester Grosvenor occupies the most prominent site in the city, a long black-and-white frontage on Eastgate Street directly beneath the Jubilee clock and a few steps from the central cross. The building has been an inn or a hotel since the eighteenth century and was rebuilt in its present half-timbered form for the Grosvenor family, whose estate still owns it. It remains the only five-star hotel in Chester and the one address every local recognises.
Bedrooms and suites are traditionally furnished, with heavy fabrics, marble bathrooms and a good deal more space than the exterior suggests. The best rooms look out over Eastgate Street towards the clock, though these are also the ones that hear the most of the city on a Saturday night; the quieter rooms face inwards. Service is old-fashioned in the best sense, with a concierge who knows the city properly and can get you a table or a racecourse badge at short notice.
Eating is split between the Arkle, the hotel's formal restaurant and one of the most serious kitchens in the north-west, and La Brasserie, an all-day room done out in Parisian style that handles breakfast, afternoon tea and lighter dinners. There is a cocktail bar with an extensive whisky list, and a small spa on the lower ground floor with treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam room and a gym.
This suits couples marking an occasion, racegoers who want to walk to the Roodee, and anyone who values position above all else. The cathedral, the Rows and the walls are all within three or four minutes on foot. There is no hotel car park in the usual sense, though valet parking is arranged, and the rates are the highest in the city by a clear margin.

Repeat customer, stayed here without any issue multiple times. Breakfast is particularly good which is one of my reasons for booking. Stayed on 20 July at a cost of £175. The room provided was beyond disgusting. The carpet was stained throughout, the rug by the bed was covered in some sort of red substance. Not vacuumed, either. The sort of Travellodge-type place you'd wipe your feet on the way out. Thought I'd relax with a drink from the mini bar... To find that caked in dirt and grime on it, on top of it, by the side of it. Reported to reception, who were sympathetic, who suggested it was the issue of the outsourced cleaning team. The problems in this room were not caused by one guest, it's clear the hotel management don't check these rooms often. I had agreed a refund, but days later I learn I have been given... £66 back. Advice: There are plenty of fantastic hotels in Chester. Don't be fooled by the fake five stars of this one - your money would be better spent elsewhere.

Another wonderful stay at this beautiful hotel.As usual everything was perfect,rooms,food,staff etc.Had a beautiful suite so peaceful & quiet at the back of the hotel.So sad it's closing for a while 😪 Will most definitely be back when it re opens,hope its not too long. Until then thank you to all the staff past & present for all the lovely times we have had there.Also got to mention Kev one of the doormen he's ace! 😘

This is a decent place. A little overpriced for what it is. We had the room furthest away so quite the walk to get there. We had a breakfast included deal but they told us we were allowed only the Continental breakfasr so I wonder why it wasn't said so at the time of booking. No place to sit in the general area.

Came here for afternoon tea for my Mum's 50th birthday and had a great time. Although the food was fairly pricey, I understand that we're not at just 'any' hotel. The food was all of good quality and tasted great. We opted for 2 x Gentlemans and a traditional afternoon tea. The staff were attentive and asked a few times if we required anything further in terms of food, asked for allergies too which was a nice touch. Would recommend to anyone wanting a nice relaxing experience in a lovely city!
