What visitors say
Such a beautiful cathedral. Staff was friendly and helpful. They had a quilt exhibit. Gardens were also lovely. So much history.

If there is a cathedral , or church open , I always like to go in. Now as far as this one goes its a pretty standard affair, yes its beautiful , yes its worth visiting, but I felt there was nothing that really elevated it to the top tier of cathedrals. Some nice architecture, stained glass windows tombs and gardens. If your in chester it is well worth seeing , but it doesnt just have that wow factor for me.

For god's sake, which is a neat way to start a review about a cathedral, you don't have to ram the fact that you survive on donations down the throats of everyone who enters. To be honest the powers that be, his holy Vicarness, or Priesty, has made it a little too touristy for my liking. The beauty of the building is the building itself, you don't need to adorn it with all the tapestry type things hanging everywhere. They knew how to build glorious structures when this glorious structure was built. They knew how the windows should be, how the woody things would be carved. It doesn't need the embellishments. Pretty cool otherwise, the builders 👷♀️ 👷♂️ done good.

Visiting Chester Cathedral was an absolutely unforgettable experience and without doubt one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have visited in the UK. From the moment you approach the building, the sheer scale and detail of the architecture immediately capture your attention. The cathedral is breathtaking both inside and out, with stunning stonework, intricate carvings, and centuries of history woven into every corner of the building. Walking through the cathedral feels like stepping back in time. The craftsmanship throughout is extraordinary, particularly in the vaulted ceilings, the beautifully preserved stained-glass windows, and the remarkable wooden choir stalls. Each area has its own character and atmosphere, and there is so much to explore that you could easily spend hours appreciating the details. One of the things that stood out most was the sense of calm and reflection the cathedral offers. Despite being a popular attraction, it still feels incredibly peaceful. Whether you are religious or simply interested in history, architecture, or culture, it is a place that invites you to slow down and take everything in. The gardens and surrounding grounds are also wonderfully maintained and provide a lovely space to walk and relax after exploring the cathedral itself. The staff and volunteers were welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about sharing the cathedral’s history with visitors. Chester Cathedral is not just a historic landmark; it is a living, breathing piece of heritage that continues to inspire awe and admiration. If you are visiting Chester, this is an absolute must-see. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a beautiful and tranquil place to visit. A truly five-star experience.
