Harrowbeard House

Photo: Harrowbeard House

Marhamchurch sits inland on the quieter side of this corner of north Cornwall, but the coast is near enough to reach in minutes. Widemouth Bay and Bude's three sandy beaches draw families and surfers, and between them are smaller coves worth exploring. Bude itself has restaurants specialising in local seafood, a golf course, tennis, horse riding, an indoor pool and bowling. The village pub is a short walk from Harrowbeard House, as is the shop.

The house is a contemporary detached home with four bedrooms and two bathrooms, sleeping eight including infants in a cot. Downstairs, the living room has a woodburner and opens onto a south-facing terrace with countryside and sea views. The kitchen is separately fitted with two electric ovens, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and range. A ground-floor toilet and garage with washing machine and tumble dryer are handy for families. Upstairs, the main bedroom has a kingsize bed and ensuite shower; two further doubles and two single rooms complete the layout. Essentials including heating, electricity, linen, towels and wifi are covered. The owners leave initial logs for the burner, a travel cot, highchair and welcome pack. A large terrace with garden furniture, sun loungers and a BBQ overlooks the garden, and there is private parking for three cars. No smoking indoors.

A good friend of ours is staying here this week to celebrate a special birthday. We visited her yesterday. It looks a lovely house. Parking for 3 or 4 cars on the drive, a nice garden to the side and at the rear of the property with amazing views across fields and down to the sea. Large kitchen / dining room with a dining table an island. Very well equipped with all you'd need for a self-catering holiday. A good sized lounge with a large screen TV in the corner. A cloakroom with toilet and hand basin to the left of the stairs. We didn't look around upstairs as it was occupied by guests on holiday but we're told that the property sleeps 8. I would recommend the house for a stay, based on what we saw and comments from our friends staying there.
