High Thrushbank
Cumberland
High Thrushbank stands a quarter-mile from Loweswater, positioned to take in views across the lake towards forest and fells. An 18th-century cottage that has been substantially updated, it retains character while being fully insulated and double glazed. The setting draws red squirrels and varied birdlife to its extensive gardens, where lawn and mature trees frame the surrounding countryside.
The property sleeps 12 across five bedrooms and four bathrooms spread over two floors. Downstairs holds a king-size bedroom with ensuite, a living room and separate dining room each with woodburners and seating for groups, plus a kitchen equipped for cooking at scale with two ovens and two fridges. Upstairs are four further bedrooms with single and double beds. Heating and hot water run primarily from solar panels and an air source heat pump, backed by an oil boiler. Electricity, wi-fi (in the main living areas and some bedrooms), bed linen and heating logs are included. There are internal steps throughout the cottage; less mobile guests may find access challenging. No smoking indoors.
The large garden has plenty of seating and space to spread out. Parking on site accommodates three cars. The location suits groups of families or walking parties; Loweswater and the surrounding fells offer low-level lakeside paths, fell walking, cycling and fishing nearby.
