Laal Yan is a traditional stone cottage dating from an era when Workington's terraces clustered near the centre of town. Its name comes from Cumbrian dialect meaning 'little one'—a fair description of a property that packs genuine character into a compact footprint. The cottage sits on a small terrace within sight of the fells, with the River Greta running adjacent, and a car park close by for guests arriving with transport.
Inside, the ground floor holds a sitting room with a wood-burning stove and a kitchen combining period proportions with a modern cooker and work surfaces. The first floor contains two bedrooms: one with a double bed and one with a single, served by a shower room. Central heating, electricity, linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. Note that the stairs are steep and narrow. The cottage suits couples, solo travellers, or a small family, and appeals to anyone wanting to base themselves within walking distance of the town and its amenities—the Wild Duck is less than a mile away.

We had no problems finding La'al Yan, and Graham made us very welcome. Every consideration has gone into creating this delightful holiday home, and we wanted for nothing during our stay. Freshly baked bread, biscuits, butter, jams milk, and cereals were all provided in a welcome pack. Even coffee pods for the fancy machine. Located in the delightful Hamlet of Branthwaite, with walks from the door into the countryside. I particularly enjoyed the view of the hills from Alan's bench a little way into my walk with Charlie. Our knees certainly appreciated the higher sofa, and bed. Great reception for the television, plenty of hot water, and a great shower. No complaints from Charlie, who settled perfectly on arrival. Thank-you for his marvelous welcome pack! A stress free break for us all. Thank-you for your generous consideration in every aspect of our stay with you. Anne Michael, and Charlie.

I’ve stayed numerous times in all sorts of weather! During the summer i enjoyed the lovely garden and the gorgeous local walks. During the winter months it is so warm, cosy and welcoming. Hope to stay again in the near future and catch-up with the lovely hosts, Michaela and Graham x
