The Alpaca Lodge

Cumberland

View on Google Maps

The Alpaca Lodge is a timber-built property on a small holding where alpacas, donkeys, hens and horses live. The lodge sits on the fringe of the Lake District National Park, between Cockermouth and Ennerdale, in the village of Rowrah. From the windows you look directly onto the paddocks where the animals graze. Red squirrels, roe deer and badgers visit regularly. The owners run alpaca walks which can be booked in advance, and offer to introduce guests to the animals.

Everything is on one level: a spacious open-plan living and dining area with a wood burner and Smart TV, a kitchen fitted with a full range of appliances, and two bedrooms with two bathrooms. The first bedroom has a kingsize bed and an ensuite shower room; the second has two single beds. Outside, there is a sheltered back garden with seating and a terrace, plus covered bike storage and parking for two cars. Electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and WiFi are included; logs for the burner are provided initially, with extras available to purchase.

The location gives straightforward access to Lake District walking and cycling, or to woodland trails at Marron Leys. Within a quarter-mile are Ennerdale Brewery and a pub, both serving food. The coast is nearby. One dog is welcome. No smoking inside the property.
