We prebooked our tickets online, which was easy to do. Would have been no problem to get them at the entrance too as not many people. Really loved the guided tour - our tour guide Andy gave us lots of information and made sure it was interesting for the kids too. When I joked about there being ghosts he thought our kids could be afraid of them and asked to make sure - very considerate! Even though making sure it was interesting for the kids Andy managed for the tour to be informative for adults too and was keen to answer all the questions people had. We loved the deers too and the stroll through the rose gardens. The walk up to Belvedere was nice, even though it being quite steep, but we were warned about that by the lady at the entrance. We expected to be able to go into the tower so that was a bit of a disappointment- but the view from up there are absolutely stunning!

Quite good place to visit if you are in Devon and want to take a 3-4 hour visit. Price of entry very reasonable for these days, you can get a garden only or a garden and house ticket, not a lot difference in the cost and definitely worth getting the full experience. You can take a guided tour round the house but you can do it on your own, very good staff in various rooms that can answer almost all of your questions. Only part of the house open to the public but the areas that are are all worth seeing. Small kiosk in the front courtyard selling drinks and snacks. Bigger resteraunt just a little further back from the castle on the way out. Food here reasonable prices, portions Quite large the ploughman's selection are very good.

Apparently I visited here 46 years ago aged 8, which I don't remember, but definitely enjoyed my second visit. Visited at May Half Term when the heatwave was subsiding, we had a lovely walk around the gardens and viewed deer in the parkland. The castle has some impressive rooms, where you can take a tour or walk around on your own. The grand staircase is amazing and the elegant dining room with extra large fire surround. The staff are friendly and very informative. I would recommend visiting, plus dogs are allowed in the house which is unusual as most don't allow. The gift shop wasn't open when we visited, a little disappointing as I would have bought something to remember our day.

Went to Toby's Garden Festival here and had a wonderful time wandering around the various plant and arts and crafts stalls. Welcomed on entry by Toby and various other TV garden presenters and a couple of giant flower people. Didn't get a great look around the castle but will return another day to do that. Most enjoyable event.
