River Cottage

The Dales around Matlock draw walkers and explorers year-round. River Cottage sits within half a mile of the Peak District National Park boundary, close enough that the moors and valleys are on your doorstep yet far enough that you have a proper village base. The River Derwent runs nearby, and from here you can reach Bakewell, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall on day trips, or venture further to Carsington Water, Castleton's caves, and the other attractions that scatter across the region.

This detached stone building has two bedrooms—one with a double bed, one with a double below and single above—and a bathroom with a shower over the bath. Downstairs, a living room with TV and a kitchen/dining room where you can cook properly with gas hob and electric oven, plus dishwasher and washing machine. An enclosed courtyard and garden provide outdoor space. Electricity, heating, bed linen and towels come as standard. One dog stays free. A pub sits 75 yards down the road; shops and restaurants are a 15-minute walk. Parking is on-street, about 75 yards from the cottage. The property is non-smoking throughout.
