Anne and John were great hosts! We had to be out early on Saturday morning and she prepared us early coffee and a quick breakfast. Then a delicious more relaxed one on Sunday. Location is ideal for walking into Matlock, and more generally served us well for travelling to and from Bakewell. My room was pretty hot but no fault of the B&B, the heatwave has been intense. I asked for a fan on Saturday morning and it was in my room for the evening. If I ever need to visit Matlock again I know where I'll be staying! 🙂

Everything about the stay was 10/10. The hosts, the room, the food, the garden. Everything was just perfect and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had, nothing is ever too much trouble and we were looked after immensely. The creamy mushrooms were one of the nicest things we’ve had.

Lovely room and hosts, and a great breakfast. Loved the vegan/veggie options. Also a very good location to get to local bars/restaurants and the station for when you want to get out and about.

Over the years I’ve stayed in a lot of different types of accommodation, but Ellen House is by far one of my favourites. Location is fantastic - close to the train station, town, and various starting points for walks/hikes. The rooms are spacious, super comfortable, and scrupulously clean. Toiletries are provided, as well as tea and coffee making facilities. There’s plenty of storage space, and extra blankets are also available. Breakfast is superb, and they kindly adapt the breakfast to your preference. Every day I tucked into a different dish, and thoroughly enjoyed each one! But my absolute favourite part of my stay were the hosts Anne & John - both of whom are incredibly welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. Having lived in the area for nearly 20yrs they have a wealth of knowledge and made some great recommendations. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. If ever I visit Matlock again I would not hesitate to rebook Ellen House. Highly recommended!
