About Fronalchen Caravan Park

How does a spacious, back-to-basics site sound? How about if it were inside a spectacular national park, with stunning views of the mountains? If you answered 'pretty fab, ta very much', get motors running all the way to Fronalchen Caravan Park, a family-friendly site five minutes' drive from Dolgellau in Gwynedd.

Ramblers, hikers, bikers and riders are well served hereabouts, as the site's in Eryri/Snowdonia National Park: Torrent Walk (a four-mile circular route along the River Clywedog gorge) starts less than five minutes away and the mountain biking tracks of Coed-y-Brenin are within half an hour. It's about 20 minutes from here to pony trekking excursions too – surely one of the most photogenic ways to venture around this part of the world. When you've had your fill of pedalling and tramping, lengthy sandy stretches at Fairbourne and Barmouth (both 20 minutes from base) offer surfing, fishing trips and lazy beach days.

Fancy a few zero-fuss days instead? Retreat back to base, where there's little to distract from gorgeous views of Cadair Idris and the mountains around it. Campfires are allowed by the riverbank, and with plenty of room for kickabouts and dog walks, it's proper old-school camping – though the lack of hot water keeps things genuinely rustic.

I was forced into a last minute booking due to being let down by another accommodation and fair enough I feel on my feet here. This is an excellent campsite. The location is perfect, the field for camping is super spacious, and the facilities are certainly enough for a camping trip. The lack of hot water for washing dishes doesn't bother me while the showers were hot and clean. I'll be back

Lovely campsite to visit in the heart of Wales. Pro's: Big open space with great views of mountain's in the background. Great for dark skies, we saw loads of stars. The stream that runs by the site is awesome. Pools of shallow water to go wading in.. Lots of walks to be had from the site especially following the river/stream. Showers excellent. Cheap fire pits and logs for only £5. Very welcoming staff/owners on arrival. Small Cons: Toilets are very basic. No designated bays for your van, tent etc so was abit free for all and ended up very close to each other but that's more a reflection of going in the summer holidays. I imagine in the off peak the freedom to choose is great. Only one washing up sink for whole site so again due to peak times was done queuing needed. Overall would come again mainly for the stream. It was an adventure.

Good Site, We arrived and called the phone number to check in but recieved no response, pitched our tent along the river side and had no issues. Grass could do with a cut though. Showers available at no extra cost and toilets also available. Looks like they were doing some work building a new toilet/shower/reception block? Showers were portable, festival style but still very clean. Located very closeby to Dolgellau and a handy Starbucks and Shop nearby to get some essentials. No plug sockets unless staying at a hook up. Good location for bikepacking Lon Las Cymru. Very peaceful. Would likely stay again.
