Tan Aeldroch Farm

Tent, caravan and motorhome pitches at Tan Aeldroch Farm in Gwynedd, near Dolwyddelan and Snowdonia.

About Tan Aeldroch Farm

Tan Aeldroch Farm is a working farm campsite in Gwynedd that takes tents, caravans and motorhomes on grass pitches. It sits in the foothills of Snowdonia near Dolwyddelan, a village on the A470 that runs through the heart of the national park. The site has showers and pitches from £25 per night.

The location puts you within reach of some of Snowdonia's main attractions. Dolwyddelan Castle, a 13th-century fortress, sits on a hilltop above the village. The slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a short drive away, as is the Ffestiniog Railway if you want a scenic ride through the valley. For walkers, there are routes up into the mountains from nearby, and the A5 corridor to the west offers access to further peaks and lakes. The village itself has a handful of shops and pubs for supplies and an evening meal.

Stunning location right next to a river. This is a "quiet" site so no music or loud parties but you can have a fire and just enjoy the scenery. Dogs allowed on site but must be on leads as there are sheep in the field. There are basic amenities, toilets, showers and water taps. Bets-y-coed is the nearest town/shop which is a 6 minute drive away. If you want a peaceful, beautiful, relaxing site, right next to a river, surrounded by stunning woodland then this is definitely the place for you. Lovely owner. Very friendly. Logs sold in site and fire pits provided.

couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting. we put are tent next to the river, the sound of the river was so relaxing. the camp site is very basic, which is perfect if you are looking for a into the wild type trip, we loved it. it does have proper working toilets, and showers, drinking water taps around the field, free fire pit's to use and they sell wood at the farm house. the only thing they don't have at the moment, is somewhere to wash your plates, but I do know they will be fixing that soon. also The midges! Come prepared - they can get pretty bad at sun down. but other than that, we really enjoyed our weekend here, and would come back again.

Great location, very close to Betws-y-coed and the perfect base for exploring the nearby roads and mountains. The pitches are unallocated, so you can pick your own spot - there are some along the river and plenty others in the fields. You can park right beside your pitch. Toilets and showers are in a little barn, very rustic, but clean. It was lovely to see sheep and lambs wander through from time to time, it really did feel like camping on a farm. There are fire pits dotted around the fields and you can buy bags of wood to burn. Friendly staff on reception gave recommendations for things to do in the area, including a great food recommendation in Betws-y-coed: Hangin' Pizzeria (best pizzas we've had in years!) Note: There's nowhere dedicated (yet) to wash dishes and pots. Do bring midge/mosquito repellent! We ended up leaving a day early unfortunately because we came unprepared and were eaten alive by midges on the first night.

Odd. My partner and I booked a 1 night stay at Tan Aeldroch farm and we were really looking forward to the tranquility as displayed in the photos. Was slightly confusing as it was advertised as a farm but the actual campsite is called ‘Camp Snowdonia’. Route there wasn’t sign posted particularly well. We just shrugged it off. We went to reception to check in, however nobody was there - wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary owners may have been busy or elsewhere. Knocked loudly as it is sign posted on the door but no answer. No contact information and when I rang the number that is connected to Google it just rang straight through.. just a slightly eerie answer phone which I’m not even sure worked. First red flag. The campsite itself is nice. It has several fields and was extremely clean. Went to the toilet however women’s toilets had a padlock on it yet men’s were open?? Second red flag. I completely appreciate the owners efforts to keep their campsite clean, however it is a slight contradiction allowing pets yet not letting them do their business on the campsite. Not sure about your dog but mine isn’t potty trained.. so taking him out of the campsite just to go to the toilet is quite absurd. Third red flag. My partner has a very strong gut instinct and insisted that we didn’t stay at the camp as he didn’t think it was safe. I had a funny feeling about it too. There was a lack of information prior to staying at the camp regarding navigation, checking in and campsite rules (if I had seen these in an email I would have cancelled so I could get a refund). Unfortunately we did not stay overnight which was disappointing and a waste of money.
