About Burnbake Campsite
Tucked into a peaceful woodland clearing just a stone's throw from Corfe Castle, Burnbake offers a proper back-to-basics camping experience with just enough comfort to keep everyone happy. You can choose between open grass pitches or shaded woodland spots, plus a handful of electric hook-ups and hardstanding if you need them, or pre-pitched bell tents for a glamping twist. Campfires are actively encouraged, lending a genuinely atmospheric feel once the sun goes down.
Facilities cover the essentials – hot showers, toilets, drinking water – and dogs are welcome throughout. Wi-Fi is included, though many campers are happy to switch off entirely. It's a solid, unfussy base for exploring the Purbeck hills and coast, though some visitors note the site can feel a touch rustic in places; if you're after polish and polish alone, this may not be your cup of tea.

What visitors say
We’ve stayed here several times - excellent place to stay, however the men’s loos flushes were barely functional - when we informed the staff they basically said just to make do with it and didn’t seem to feel there was any need to be improving - this is why I’ve only given it 4 stars this time. Going forward we would definitely visit again but stick to portaloos - the main loos took no kidding, at least 20 and I repeat, 20 minutes to flush away a number 2 after countless pumps of the handle, and to make matters worse many people simply gave up trying to flush and so before could even use the loo needed spend ages trying to flush away others waste first - and the staff incredibly thought there was nothing wrong with this scenario when I explained it to them. I see there’s an option to add photos and videos to this, for the good of the masses I shall refrain from doing this. On a positive note the cleanliness of everything else was excellent as always.

So we camped, but the lodges look good. Location is great, close to beautiful beaches, Swanage and Corfe Castle. The campsite is super pretty with trees and little glades. Flat pitches. But, and it is a big BUT...It's busy, crowded as its popular, more like a festival and everyone has a fire pit so it's smokey at night. But the worse thing is the noise, too many kids on bikes going round at night. Curfew of 10.30 but not really adhered to. But staff were good, showers and loos clean, not enough of the them at busy times. Fire pit rental is £34.50 for two nights. Good cycle hire. But they don't have communal Fridge/Freezers for your cool box blocks

clean facilities, warm showers, a little convenience store on site with a nice outdoor eating area where you can order food. Unfortunately the food area was only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday when we were there. We stayed in the main camping area where there are more trees rather than a field. Free Wifi works well

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolutely magical woodland getaway! I’ve stayed at quite a few campsites over the years, but Burnbake is by far my absolute favourite. I’ve been coming to this wonderful site since the eighties, and it never fails to delight. We’ve just finished another marvellous stay here from 03/06 until today (25/06), and it was utterly perfect from start to finish. The natural, shady woodland setting is simply gorgeous and provides a proper, authentic camping atmosphere. The facilities here have a charming rustic appeal, and I absolutely adore the outdoor showers. The communal washing-up area is wonderful too, it is always so friendly and a lovely spot for a good chat while doing the dishes. What truly sets this place apart is the people. Everyone on-site, from the team running the place to our fellow campers, was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The staff are exceptionally professional and really look after the peaceful vibe of the site. At one point, there were some rather noisy youths playing loud music, but the staff handled it immediately, politely, and firmly so everyone could get back to enjoying the tranquility. The location is a massive selling point, especially if you love being active. The off-road cycling around here is spectacular, and a brilliant tip if your legs give out is flagging down the Swanage steam train at Herston Halt to hitch a ride back! It's also an easy drive to the stunning Jurassic Coast, Studland Beach, and Corfe Castle. It's the ideal base camp for exploring Dorset or just relaxing and letting the grandchildren run wild and build dens in the woods. The shop is well-stocked, and having the little cafe on-site for a morning coffee or wood-fired pizza was a huge bonus. Even after all these decades, Burnbake remains the ultimate spot for a proper camping trip without sacrificing safety, peace, and excellent service. We shall absolutely be returning as always.
