About Hallett's at Portland Bill

Perched on a green field near the southern tip of Dorset's Portland Peninsula, Hallett's at Portland Bill serves up spectacular sea views and proper back-to-basics camping. This family-run site sits less than five minutes' drive from the iconic red-and-white striped Portland Bill lighthouse, with pitches you can drive right up to – handy if you're hauling kayaking or paddleboarding kit.

The South West Coast Path runs directly alongside, leading clifftop walkers to Church Ope Cove's sheltered pebbly beach in 25 minutes, or southwest to Pulpit Rock for sunset-watching. The peaceful vibe is protected by a strict ban on loud music and noisy groups, and while facilities are intentionally simple (portable toilets only), you're welcome to bring a barbecue. Dogs are allowed year-round on leads.

With the nearest pub a five-minute stroll and provisions at Weston or Easton village (five minutes' drive), you're remote enough to feel the island spirit but not stranded. Proper wild-style camping for those who relish simplicity and scenery.

I was lucky enough to stay here to photograph a wedding where the couple had hired the entire site for the occasion. It's in a stunning spot. Big skies and sea views are two of my favourite things which this place has both by the bucketload. I spent most of my time in the field barefoot and it was fantastic. Great access to the coastpath and nearby climbing spots make it a brilliant spot to pitch up in the summer.

Great for what it is & the couple managing the site are very friendly. Basic site & laidback atmosphere.

What a great little spot, amazing views looking out over the sea, had a lovely evening watching all the sail boats on Saturday night. Host's are very friendly and welcoming, we stayed at their other site the night before. Both sites are very basic, no showers and only portaloo's at the Portland Bill site but there are flushing toilets at the rural site. But for £15 a night, the relaxed atmosphere and location it's well worth it, will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful camp site. Basic but advertising is spot on. Right next to the sea and coastal path. 10mins away from shops and Portland Bill. Plus just get amazing sunrise and sealife, to experience these seals was amazing.
