About Happyard

Tucked into rural Dorset between Bridport and Dorchester, Happyard is an off-grid farm campsite where alpacas are the star attraction. Guests can meet the friendly herd during free Wednesday feeding sessions, or book alpaca walks and parties for an additional fee. The roomy field also hosts ponies, guinea pigs and other animals, with regular feeding times throughout the week. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, so you can cook up a feast under the stars after a day exploring the nearby Jurassic Coast or Hardy Monument.

The site sits deep in the Dorset National Landscape with views across open fields, making it a peaceful base for walkers and a handy stopover en route to Devon or Cornwall. Facilities are basic – this is proper off-grid camping, so bring your own drinking water – but showers and flushing loos are available in the main yard. It's family-friendly, rally-friendly and welcomes groups, though dogs aren't permitted due to the resident animals.

What visitors say

I have just spent 3 wonderful days with my daughter and 2 grandchildren camping at this site. We took our own tent, but there are very roomy and comfortable Bell tents available if you prefer to have accommodation set up ready for you. There is a shower and toilet block which are kept lovely and clean. Tina and everyone working/volunteering at this site were so friendly, there is a real family feel and we were made very welcome. The most amazing experience was seeing the Alpacas, we also had the opportunity to walk with them while learning lots of interesting facts. In addition to Alpacas, there are rabbits, guinea pigs and cats, much to my granddaughters’ delight ! I would highly recommend Happyard, thank you for making our visit an enjoyable one. Nice camp site but majorly annoyed about being told off by the owner because our children used the toilet. Huge fields with plenty of room but one family decided to camp with the tent almost touching the toilet. We had around 15 children I'm our group of 24 and them using the toilet really upset the family that like to sleep with their heads approximately 8 inches from the portaloo. Instead of the owner questioning why in 2 huge almost empty fields people would choose such a ridiculous place to camp she marched up to our pitches and told us the kids were banned from using the toilets for the night.
